The residence hall contract you signed is a legally binding agreement for the full academic year, covering both the fall and spring semesters. However, under extreme circumstances, students may request to be released from their contract.
To be eligible for a contract release, there must have been an unforeseen and significant change in your circumstances since signing your contract that prevents you from fulfilling your housing obligation.
Common Reasons for a Contract Release
Students may be considered for release if they meet one of the following criteria:
- Have completed the four-semester on-campus residency requirement
- Are 21 years of age or older
- Will be living with a parent/legal guardian within a 50-mile radius of campus
- Other exceptional circumstances (reviewed on a case-by-case basis
Important Notes:
- Each request is reviewed individually, and approval is not guaranteed.
- Requests must include supporting documentation. Requests submitted without documentation will not be considered.
- If you have any questions, please contact our office at Reslife@Fairmontstate.edu or 304-367-4216.
