Admissions for International Students

Applicants must submit a completed application for admission with all supporting documentation by the following deadlines:

  • For Fall Semester (August-December) - July 1
  • For Spring Semester (January-May) - November 1
  • Admission for the summer terms (May-August) is only permitted if you are currently in the United States

To be considered for Undergraduate Admission, an applicant from abroad must satisfy the following requirements:

  1. Complete the Online Application for Undergraduate Admission. Applicants cannot apply for an Academic Pathway.
  2. Submit official academic record(s).
    1. Freshman applicants should submit their secondary school (high school) transcript.  If you have completed college/university coursework you will need to submit all post-secondary transcript(s).
    2. In cases where high school graduation is expected after the application deadline for admission, acceptance at Fairmont State would be given to the prospective student with the understanding that the student successfully completes the necessary academic requirements and submit proof of graduation.
    3. Transfer students should submit their post-secondary school transcript(s).
    4.  If you are a transfer student transferring over 24 credit hours with a GPA of 2.0 or higher, you are not required to submit your high school credentials.
  3. Transcripts from outside the United States require an official course-by-course evaluation to be sent to Fairmont State University from one of the credentialing services listed below.  Evaluations must include a statement of U.S. high school or college equivalency.  Photocopies will not be accepted.
  4. If your native language is not English, the applicant must submit official English proficiency scores of one of the following.  Scores are only valid for two years. Online English courses cannot be accepted in place of these scores.  This requirement may be waived if an applicant is from an English-speaking nation per SEVIS guidelines or is transferring the equivalent of Fairmont State’s English 1101 with a passing grade of C or higher from an accredited U.S. college or university.

    • TOEFL Internet-based — 61
    • TOEFL Computer-based — 173
    • TOEFL Paper-based — 500
    • TOEIC — 605
    • IELTS — 5.5 
    • Duolingo English Test - 95
    • Pearson English - 50
  5. Applicant must submit proof of financial support for the first academic year of tuition and living expenses (must be in U.S. dollar format and translated to English).  Documents cannot be older than three months.  Documents accepted are bank statements, scholarship letters, loan letters, etc.  
  6. Sponsor Affidavit Form reflecting the required $31,894 USD for the first academic year
  7. Color Copy of Passport
  8. Proof of health insurance coverage
  9. Immunization record — Upload your Vaccines Records
    • Measles, Mumps & Rubella (MMR) (if born after January 1, 1957)
    • Varicella (Chickenpox)
    • Tetanus (Tdap)
    • Polio
    • Meningococcal Vaccine (MCV4 or Quadrivalent)
    • Highly Recommended: COVID-19 Vaccine
  10. Transfer students taking courses in the United States are required to submit a transfer eligibility form from their current college or university.
  11. If applying for a Dependent I-20, the following must be received.
    • If requesting I-20 for a spouse:  Marriage certificate
    • If requesting I-20 for child/children:  Birth Certificate(s)
    • Passport for each dependent for whom you are requesting an I-20
    • Proof of funding for the next two semesters for each dependent. Funding is $3,000 a semester per dependent.
  12. Applicants must submit a request for campus housing. A room deposit will be required upon notification of admission.
