For the third consecutive year, Fairmont State University and the Tygart Valley United Way have partnered for the annual Day of Action, as part of Fairmont State’s Welcome Weekend celebrations. Day of Action incorporates community service into the Welcome Weekend programming and allows Falcons to interact with the surrounding community in a positive and impactful way.

On July 17 Director of the Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center Dr. Lydia Warren was announced as a recipient of the American Folklife Center (AFC) Gerald E. And Corinne L. Miki Glenn was promoted to Associate Head Coach of the Fairmont State women’s basketball team after Head Coach Stephanie Anderson announced on Wednesday (July 19). Glenn will begin her fifth season on Anderson’s staff in Fairmont.
Fairmont State University is now offering a new scholarship for incoming students. The Falcon Excellence in Residence Scholarship is a $2,000 scholarship for incoming/new students who choose to live on campus during their journey as a Falcon and have a high school GPA of 3.5 or higher. The $2,000 scholarship will be applied to student’s first-year tuition at Fairmont State ($1,000 a semester). The scholarship does not require ACT/SAT testing scores.

The presentation title is ‘Improving Teaching in Physics Courses Using SCALE-UP Pedagogies.’ SCALE-UP is a method of teaching that takes the focus off of the teacher and makes learning more student-centric through collaborative and hands-on activities.
The Fairmont State University College of Nursing will host an accreditation visit by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) on September 13-15, 2023. The purpose of the visit is to seek continuing nursing accreditation of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.
Fairmont State University continued its commitment to student success and accessible higher education through the ‘Finish What You Started’ scholarship event on June 15. The event was created specifically to encourage those who have taken a hiatus from their pursuit of a college education to restart and finish earning their degrees. During the event, each attendee received a $1000 one-time scholarship for their first year at Fairmont State. This is the first-ever scholarship event held by Fairmont State catered to readmitted and transfer students.
