Fairmont State to host second West Virginia High School Counselor Day

Fairmont State University will host its second West Virginia High School Counselor Day on Tuesday, September 22 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. The event will provide free professional development and networking opportunities for high school counselors throughout the state and assist them with better preparing their college-bound high school students

Fairmont State to host prospective students at Appalachian Power Park event

On Friday, September 15 Fairmont State University will host the prospective Falcons at Appalachian Power Park in Charleston for Fairmont State Night at Power Park. This is the third year in a row the event has been held, and will be Fairmont State University President Mike Davis’s first time attending after he took on Fairmont State’s leadership role in July.

The West Virginia Folklife Program Presents Folklife Apprenticeship Showcase at Fairmont State University

The West Virginia Folklife Program, a project of the West Virginia Humanities Council, will present the second of three showcases featuring its 2022-2023 Folklife Apprenticeship Program at the Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center at Fairmont State University on Saturday September 30, 2023 at 4pm. The Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center is located on Squibb Wilson Blvd.

Fairmont State University Receives WVHEPC Campus Mental Health Grant

For the third consecutive year, Fairmont State University has been awarded grant funding through the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission’s Campus Mental Health Grant program. This year, the $4,000 in funding will be used to design and implement the Incentivized Holistic Wellness Assessment, a joint initiative of Fairmont State’s Offices of Student Health, Accessibility, Social Work, and Nursing. The purpose of this comprehensive examination is to identify students’ barriers to success at Fairmont State and connect them to the appropriate resources.

Fairmont State graduate program produces skilled long-term care professionals

The Master of Science in Healthcare Management (MHCM) at Fairmont State University began in 2020. From its inception, it included a pathway to obtaining a license as a nursing home administrator. This began as a collaborative effort of Fairmont State the West Virginia Nursing Home Administrator’s Licensing Board (WVNHALB). This effort continues to result in much student success.

Fairmont State welcomes new Head Cheerleading Coach

Fairmont State University has welcomed alumna Courtney Sandy as the new Head Cheerleading Coach. Cowen, West Virginia native Sandy has been an active cheerleader since she was five and continued to cheer throughout her high school and college years. She has choreographed routines, worked alongside Special Olympics cheerleaders, and attended various cheer camps.

Fairmont State University Athletics Department Receives WVHEPC Diversity for Equity Grant

Fairmont State University has received $5,000 in grant funding through the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission’s (WVHEPC’s) Diversity for Equity Grant program. This grant will be used to hold two events celebrating diversity on campus: an International Cookout and a Black History Celebration. Devin Heath-Granger, Associate Head Men’s Basketball Coach, and Mikaylah Glenn, Associate Head Women’s Basketball Coach, are the co-leaders of this initiative.
