Fairmont State University will host its second West Virginia High School Counselor Day on Tuesday, September 22 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. The event will provide free professional development and networking opportunities for high school counselors throughout the state and assist them with better preparing their college-bound high school students
On Friday, September 15 Fairmont State University will host the prospective Falcons at Appalachian Power Park in Charleston for Fairmont State Night at Power Park. This is the third year in a row the event has been held, and will be Fairmont State University President Mike Davis’s first time attending after he took on Fairmont State’s leadership role in July.
The West Virginia Folklife Program, a project of the West Virginia Humanities Council, will present the second of three showcases featuring its 2022-2023 Folklife Apprenticeship Program at the Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center at Fairmont State University on Saturday September 30, 2023 at 4pm. The Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center is located on Squibb Wilson Blvd.
For the third consecutive year, Fairmont State University has been awarded grant funding through the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission’s Campus Mental Health Grant program. This year, the $4,000 in funding will be used to design and implement the Incentivized Holistic Wellness Assessment, a joint initiative of Fairmont State’s Offices of Student Health, Accessibility, Social Work, and Nursing. The purpose of this comprehensive examination is to identify students’ barriers to success at Fairmont State and connect them to the appropriate resources.
The Master of Science in Healthcare Management (MHCM) at Fairmont State University began in 2020. From its inception, it included a pathway to obtaining a license as a nursing home administrator. This began as a collaborative effort of Fairmont State the West Virginia Nursing Home Administrator’s Licensing Board (WVNHALB). This effort continues to result in much student success.
Award-winning writer Patricia Foster, Fairmont State University's 2023 Artist-in-Residence, will read from her new essay collection, “Written in the Sky: Lessons of a Southern Daughter,” on Thursday, September 20 in the Frank & Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center’s Great Room of Cultures. The reading begins at 6 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
Fairmont State University has welcomed alumna Courtney Sandy as the new Head Cheerleading Coach. Cowen, West Virginia native Sandy has been an active cheerleader since she was five and continued to cheer throughout her high school and college years. She has choreographed routines, worked alongside Special Olympics cheerleaders, and attended various cheer camps.
Fairmont State University has received $5,000 in grant funding through the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission’s (WVHEPC’s) Diversity for Equity Grant program. This grant will be used to hold two events celebrating diversity on campus: an International Cookout and a Black History Celebration. Devin Heath-Granger, Associate Head Men’s Basketball Coach, and Mikaylah Glenn, Associate Head Women’s Basketball Coach, are the co-leaders of this initiative.
During the August 17 Fairmont State University Board of Governors Meeting President Mike Davis highlighted what he has learned over the past month and a half as Fairmont State’s President and his vision for the University moving forward.
Fairmont State University’s Aviation Center of Excellence has welcomed Jeremy Griffin as its first full-time Assistant Chief Pilot. Jeremy began his new position within Fairmont State’s Aviation program back in June. Griffin previously worked as a part-time flight instructor for the program.
Fairmont State University’s Frank and Jane Gabor Folklife Center will host two major events during the first week of classes on August 24 and August 26.
Fairmont State University kicked off the beginning of the 2023-2024 academic year during the opening session on Monday, August 14. Faculty and staff congregated in Colebank Gym to enjoy breakfast and hear from campus leadership during the event.
Fairmont State University has reestablished its music and theatre minors after these programs were discontinued in 2020. The music and theatre minors can be taken in tandem with most of Fairmont State’s academic programs.
The Fairmont State Foundation has announced the addition of six new members to its Board of Directors, including Brady Campbell, Santino Cava, Alethea Moody Wise, Christine Murphy, Adam Rohaly, and Linda Rudy.
The Fairmont State University Department of Athletics and the Fairmont State Athletic Association announced the 2023 Fairmont State Athletics Hall of Fame Class on Thursday, August 10.
