Fairmont State University Board of Governors begins the academic year with new leadership and members

Fairmont State University’s Board of Governors held their bi-monthly meeting on August 28 at 9 a.m. in the Falcon Center Board Room. This was the first full Board meeting under the leadership of Chair Jennifer Kinty, Vice Chair Jason Pizatella, and Secretary Kevin Rogers. It was also the inaugural meeting for new Board members Drew Paton, Lance Puccio, and John Schirripa.

Fairmont State's Dr. Raymond Alvarez Reappointed to West Virginia Nursing Home Administrators Licensing Board by Gov. Justice

Dr. M. Raymond Alvarez, professor of healthcare management at Fairmont State University, has been reappointed by Gov. Jim Justice to the West Virginia Nursing Home Administrators Licensing Board. He was originally appointed in October of 2021 and his term will now extend until June 2029. This board plays a crucial role in ensuring that all nursing home administrators obtain their NHA (nursing home administrator) license to work in West Virginia nursing homes.

Fairmont State University Celebrates Fourth Class of AFJROTC Cadets at Summer Flight Academy Graduation 

On August 2, Fairmont State University’s Aviation Center of Excellence graduated their fourth class of United States Air Force Junior Reserve Officer's Training Corps (AFJROTC) Flight Academy cadets. For the 4th consecutive year, cadets received a 100% FAA pass rate for their private pilot certifications in the program. The 2024 class comprised eight high school students and one college ROTC student from across the nation. These cadets were welcomed to campus in early June.

Fairmont State University Receives Grant to Hold Exhibit on West Virginia Glass Industry in Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center

Fairmont State University has received $2,000 through the West Virginia Humanities Council. This grant will be used to curate, promote, and actualize Sand and Fire: 200 Years of West Virginia Glass, a Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center exhibit highlighting how the glass industry led to significant economic development in West Virginia during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

Dulcimer Jam Takes Center Stage at Fairmont State’s Folklife Center

One of the most notable events at the Folklife Center is the Wartz ‘n All Dulcimer Jam, held twice a year. The next jam is scheduled for Saturday, August 24, beginning at 10 a.m. This free event is open to the public, inviting everyone to participate by playing or simply enjoying the music. New players can borrow cardboard dulcimers to join in the fun. The day will wrap-up around 3 p.m.

For the first time, Fairmont State University alumni, Fighting Falcons fans, employees and students who reside in West Virginia have an opportunity to pre-order a Fairmont State University specialty license plate. Preliminary interest applications are being accepted through December 31.

Fairmont State undergraduate students present forensic research findings

At many universities, students often spend their undergraduate careers dipping their toes into the world of academic research, with limited opportunities to present their findings before graduation. At Fairmont State, however, students can do research from day one, and many are given opportunities to present their findings alongside faculty experts at professional conferences around the world.

Fairmont State’s aviation program sees growth in female pilots

In October 2018, Victoria Grace was celebrated as the first woman to complete her Private Pilot Single Engine Land Rating through Fairmont State University’s flight program. Grace went on to be the first woman to graduate from the aviation program and then became their first female flight instructor.
