Fairmont State's Dr. Raymond Alvarez Reappointed to West Virginia Nursing Home Administrators Licensing Board by Gov. Justice
Dr. M. Raymond Alvarez, professor of healthcare management at Fairmont State University, has been reappointed by Gov. Jim Justice to the West Virginia Nursing Home Administrators Licensing Board. He was originally appointed in October of 2021 and his term will now extend until June 2029. This board plays a crucial role in ensuring that all nursing home administrators obtain their NHA (nursing home administrator) license to work in West Virginia nursing homes.
"Dr. Alvarez's extensive knowledge and expertise in health care management make him a valuable asset to the board, his students, and the state," said Fairmont State president Mike Davis. "He actively seeks opportunities to involve his students in these areas, providing them with hands-on experience from industry experts. Raymond’s work is yet another example of Fairmont State University’s commitment to making West Virginia a Great Place to Work, to Learn, and to Call Home."
The board's primary mission is to safeguard the public by establishing and enforcing regulations for the practice of nursing home administration. Alvarez, along with seven other health care professionals, will oversee the licensure of long-term care administrators. The board is responsible for determining candidate eligibility, setting policies, creating and enforcing rules and regulations, investigating complaints, and handling disciplinary actions.
“As a member of the board, I can attest to the dedication of my fellow members in ensuring that licensed administrators meet the highest compliance standards. I am a strong supporter of the post-acute care industry and the committed administrators serving across our 55 counties,” Alvarez said. “In my role at Fairmont State University, I have integrated a focus on post-acute care into both the undergraduate and graduate programs I oversee. It is a privilege to serve on a board where every member takes their responsibilities with the utmost seriousness.”
Alvarez brings more than 40 years of health care experience to this role. His background includes work in rural and urban hospitals, outpatient specialty centers, and expertise in project development, grants management, home-based services, strategy, and business development. He is also a published author and conference presenter on various health care management topics.
