Financial Literacy Program Developed by Fairmont State Alumnus Planned for Incoming 2024 Freshman

Not all students at Fairmont State University come from West Virginia. Or even the United States. In 1995, a young man named Danijel Velicki left his home in Croatia to enter an international student exchange program in the United States. With little advanced word about where he would go, Velicki landed in Fairmont, W.Va., and attended East Fairmont High School for his senior year.

Fairmont State Receives Grant to Fund Community Health Program

Fairmont State University has been awarded $20,000 in grant funding from the Milan Puskar Foundation to implement the College of Nursing’s Caring for Our Neighbors and Beyond – The Underserved Population project. This project aims to help individuals who lack access to healthcare services in six counties in North Central West Virginia.

Fairmont State honors the life of 7-year-old by partnering with Friends of Bridgeport Recreation Inc. for inclusive playground fundraiser

Fairmont State University has partnered with Friends of Bridgeport Recreation Inc. to raise funds for an inclusive playground to honor the life and memory of 7-year-old Ivan Gonzalez who suddenly passed earlier this year. The fundraiser, titled “Share Ivan’s Smile” will raise funds specifically for a slide for the inclusive playground, which will be dedicated to Ivan.

Fairmont State hosts twelfth FIRST LEGO League State Championship

Fairmont State University welcomed 48 FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Challenge and 24 FLL Explore robotics teams to campus for the West Virginia State Championship on Saturday, December 2. The FLL Challenge teams are comprised of students ages 9-14 and the FLL Explore teams represent students ages 6-9 from across the state of West Virginia. Around 650 participants, coaches, parents and volunteers attended Saturday’s event.

Fairmont State decorates tree for United Way fundraiser

On November 20, representatives from Fairmont State University collaborated with the Tygart Valley United Way and Pierpont Community and Technical College for their Giving Tree fundraiser. They gathered in the Middletown Commons to decorate a miniature Christmas tree that will be available for auction. All proceeds will benefit the Tygart Valley United Way.

Fairmont State to host FIRST LEGO League State Championship

Fairmont State University will welcome 46 LEGO robotics teams to campus for the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) State Championship on Saturday, December 2. The teams are made up of participants ages 9-14 who come from across the state to showcase their research and robotics design skills. Approximately 400 participants are expected at the competition.
