Selmeski chosen as Fairmont State Chief of Staff
After a multi-month national search, Dr. Brian Selmeski has been chosen as Fairmont State University’s Chief of Staff. Selmeski will join campus in early January.
“I am confident in Dr. Selmeski’s capabilities and look forward to what he will accomplish at Fairmont State,” said President Mike Davis. “We have many things in motion for the betterment of Fairmont State and our community. Given his extensive experience in higher education, I do not doubt that Dr. Selmeski will serve us well in accomplishing these goals.”
Under the direction of the President, Selmeski will provide complex project management in support of the strategic mission of the University. One of his first duties will be taking over the recently launched strategic planning process.
“One of our main priorities as an institution is the drafting of our strategic plan,” said Davis. “We have a strict timeline of when we want this plan in place, and I believe with Dr. Selmeski’s leadership we will be able to create a plan that builds on our existing strengths in a way that ensures our future.”
In addition to the Strategic Plan, Selmeski will provide leadership for several areas on campus including, international programs, government relations, institutional research and university relations and marketing. Selmeski is a higher education professional with a 20-year record of envisioning and implementing transformative initiatives. He most recently served as Associate Vice President of Academic Success for the Kentucky Community and Technical College System. After service as a U.S. Army officer, Selmeski received his doctorate from Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. He then taught at several institutions before joining Air University, where he held positions including department chair, assistant vice president of faculty affairs, and director of strategic initiatives.
“I am honored and grateful for the opportunity to join the Fairmont State family,” said Selmeski. “This University has a long, proud history and I believe it is poised for even greater accomplishments in the years to come. I look forward to partnering with President Davis, his cabinet, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders to develop a strategic plan to guide this journey.”
