Fairmont State’s aviation program soars to new heights with Governor’s $2M donation
Just before the January 2 men’s basketball game, then-Governor Jim Justice announced a transformative $2 million investment in Fairmont State University’s professional flight program, marking a significant milestone for West Virginia’s premier flight school.
"We are incredibly grateful for Governor Justice's support," said Fairmont State University President Mike Davis, “and we look forward to continuing to work with him as he moves to the U.S. Senate. This investment will significantly enhance our aviation program, allowing us to increase enrollment and graduate more professional pilots to fuel the growth of West Virginia’s aviation industry."
As West Virginia’s first collegiate flight program, Fairmont State is known for its rigorous academics and accomplished faculty. This new funding will enhance the program’s capabilities by enabling the purchase of two new planes and a "new to us” Cessna, as well as supporting engine rebuilds. Consequently, the university will be able to expand enrollment in the Aviation Management program’s professional flight concentration, reinforcing Fairmont State’s leadership in aviation education and workforce development.
“This investment is about setting Fairmont State University, its students, and our entire state on a flight pattern to success,” said then-Governor Justice. “By growing this program, we’re not just adding planes and equipment—we’re improving the foundation of West Virginia’s aerospace industry and creating incredible opportunities for our young people. This will have a lasting impact on the school, the region, and our state’s workforce for years to come. When we invest in our students, we invest in a stronger, brighter future for all of West Virginia.”
Fairmont State University is dedicated to educating the next generation of pilots and aviation professionals, driving economic growth in the state, and meeting the evolving demands of the nation’s aviation industry.
