If your major is Academic Pathways, your advisor will be listed as “Advising Center”
in Felix. You can meet with any of our advisors in the Advising Center. If you have
declared a major, a faculty member in your major will be your advisor. Contact the
staff in the College of your major to find your advisor.
Students whose major is listed as Academic Pathways are either exploring multiple
majors or trying to discover a major.
You can declare your major by completing a “Major Change Form” in Student Services,
on the 3rd floor of the Turley Student Services Center. You will be assigned a new
advisor in the department of your new major.
Your first step is to schedule an appointment to meet with your advisor. You can do
that by calling (304) 367.4709 or by requesting a meeting through Navigate.
At your appointment, your academic advisor will answer any of your questions and/or
concerns about your college experience, explore possible majors with you, assist you
in developing a list of potential classes for the next semester, connect you to other
offices, provide you with instructions for registration and your registration PIN
code.
The Advising Center often recommends several resources for major exploration. You
can begin by completing both of these free surveys: Focus 2 and 16Personalities.com. You can meet with your academic advisor to discuss your results. You can review
the majors offered at Fairmont State University by looking through the Academic Catalog.
Once you have a list of potential majors, you can seek out job shadowing experiences.
