Two teams have advanced from the 2024 Academic Showdown regional competition held at Fairmont State University on March 8. Grafton High School Team 1, Taylor County, placed first, and Bridgeport High School Team 2, Harrison County, placed second, earning both teams a spot in the finale on April 23, at the West Virginia Culture Center in Charleston.
During their February 15 meeting, Fairmont State University’s Board of Governors (BOG) approved planning for a new online criminal justice bachelor’s degree program, endorsed next steps to clarify policy review and creation, announced improved housing occupancy rates, and reported continued financial stability.
Fairmont State University will host its fifth Falcon Day of Giving on Thursday, February 29 with a fundraising goal of $375,000. Fairmont State University’s Center for Teaching and Learning Innovation (CTLI) will host a conference on Artificial Intelligence (AI) Technology, February 28-29. The Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center will be hosting a screening of the film King Coal at Fairmont State University’s Ruth Ann Musick Library on February 19 at 6 p.m. Co-producer and Fairmont State alumna Molly Born will be in attendance to participate in a post-film Q&A. The screening is free and open to students and community members.
A couple who have enjoyed successful careers in higher education pledged $30,000 in support of faculty and staff development at Fairmont State University. The Drs. Errol L. and Patricia Reese Mini Grant Fund will provide support for the Falcon Mini-Grant Program at Fairmont State, providing an opportunity to apply for faculty and staff to apply for financial resources supporting special initiatives and projects.
Fairmont State University has raised over $29,074 through the annual United Way Campaign, which wrapped up last month. This amount surpasses the $25,000 goal set for campus and is the second-largest campaign in Fairmont State’s 43-year campaign history.
