Fairmont State to showcase University during 2024 Legislative Session
New Fairmont State University President, Dr. Mike Davis, will make his inaugural visit to the West Virginia State Capitol along with more than 25 Fairmont State University students, faculty, alumni, and staff on Monday, January 29.
“We are honored to be invited back to the Capitol and I’m looking forward to my first visit as Fairmont State’s president. Important decisions that affect Fairmont State and all West Virginians are made there, so this is a great opportunity for students to learn about state government firsthand,” said President Mike Davis. “Students, faculty, staff, and alumni will also share their excitement about Fairmont State with legislators. Some highlights include enhancements to academic programs and initiatives to make the student experience even more vibrant. Finally, I’ll expand on my vision of ensuring the University is the best place to work in the state and an engine of economic development for Fairmont, surrounding counties, and the rest of West Virginia.”
Those in attendance will get to see the sights of West Virginia’s picturesque Capitol building, meet with state legislators, and attend House and Senate meetings to see the inner workings of the state’s legislative branch. This opportunity will provide students with vital lessons on state government, leadership, and politics.
“Fairmont State Day at the Capitol is such a wonderful experience for our students,” said Interim Vice President of Student Success Alicia Kalka. “We love the Charleston area and can’t wait for our students to experience all the Capitol has to offer. Our students, faculty, and staff enjoy sharing all the wonderful things happening at Fairmont State with state leaders. Our university is truly thriving!”
