Fairmont State University has named Alicia Kalka the Interim Vice President of Student Success, following the departure of former Vice President of Student Success Ken Fettig as he takes a new role at Saginaw State University in Michigan.
Fairmont State University will celebrate its 154th Fall Commencement at the Feaster Center on Saturday, December 9. Commencement will be split into two ceremonies beginning with the College of Education, Health & Human Performance, the College of Nursing and the College of Science & Technology at 10 a.m. After the 10 a.m. ceremony, graduates from the College of Business & Aviation, the College of Liberal Arts and Regents Bachelor of Arts graduates will be recognized at 2 p.m.
On Sunday, December 3 from 4 to 5:30 p.m., Fairmont State University will host a Holiday Tea Party for the women of Fairmont State. Women employees and employee partners, as well as university-affiliated community members, will gather at the Shaw House for tea and hors d'oeuvres, and to collect donation items for the women and children at HOPE, Inc.
Fairmont State University will honor its second cohort of Police Academy cadets on Thursday, December 8 at 11:00 a.m. in the Feaster Center. Governor Jim Justice is set to address the newest editions to West Virginia’s law enforcement in person during the ceremony, along with his canine companion Baby Dog.
The Datha and Gene Smith Fellowship has begun accepting applications for next year’s program. Established in 2022, the fellowship continues the Smiths’ legacy of helping first generation students make the transition from high school to college.
A Virginia family with ties to Fairmont has established a new endowed scholarship for students studying special education in the College of Education, Health and Human Performance at Fairmont State University. John A. Carbone and Mary Lois Carbone have donated $30,000 to Fairmont State in honor of their late son to create the John Anthony Carbone, Jr. Memorial Endowed Scholarship.
