Day-Long Dulcimer Jam Coming to the Folklife Center

Fairmont State University’s Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center will host the Wartz ‘n All Dulcimer Jam on Saturday, May 4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Lap dulcimer players, as-well-as all other acoustic musicians, are invited to attend. For beginner dulcimer players or those curious about the instrument, the Folklife Center will have cardboard dulcimers to lend.

Fairmont State partners with NASA to host astronomy based Star Party for the community

Fairmont State University’s Ruth Ann Musick Library and the NASA Katherine Johnson IV&V Education Resource Center have partnered to host a grant funded Star Party, where members of the community are invited to explore the night sky and learn about astronomy. The event will take place on Monday, April 15 from 8 p.m. until 10 p.m. on the Education Building Quad located on Fairmont State’s campus. If the weather does not permit, the Star Party will be postponed until April 22.

Fairmont State President shares vision to make the University ‘A Great Place’

Fairmont State University formally installed Dr. Michael K. Davis as its 27th President on Thursday, April 4. More than 750 faculty, staff, students, alumni, community members, local and state officials, delegates from other universities, and former colleagues of Dr. Davis attended. West Virginia Delegate Joey Garcia, West Virginia Senator Michael Oliverio, and Pierpont and Community Technical College President Dr. Milan Hayward provided greetings during the installation ceremony.

Companion events at Fairmont State champion mental health

For the third year, Fairmont State University will host the annual Kickin’ It for Katy 5k run/walkand its companion event, Stomp Out the Stigma. The events will take place on April 27 with the goal of spreading awareness and support for suicide prevention and mental health care.

Dr. Mike Davis to be formally installed as Fairmont State’s 27th President during Inauguration Ceremony

Fairmont State University will formally install Dr. Michael K. Davis as its 27th President on Thursday, April 4 at 4 p.m. in Fairmont State’s Falcon Center. The ceremony will take place in front of a crowd of faculty and staff, students and alumni, community members, local and state officials, delegates from other universities, and former colleagues of Dr. Davis, amongst others. West Virginia Delegate Joey Garcia, West Virginia Senator Ben Queen, and Pierpont and Community Technical College President Dr. Milan Hayward will provide greetings during the installation ceremony.

Students earn Fairmont State scholarships during Science Showdown

Seniors from two winning teams, Jefferson High School (Shenandoah Junction, WV) and Parkersburg High School (Parkersburg, WV) each received a $1,000 Fairmont State scholarship in recognition of their accomplishments during Fairmont State University’s science showdown. Twelve teams of four students comprising juniors and seniors from seven area schools competed in a series of scientific challenges as part of the University’s Science Showdown on February 24. This is the second year in a row Fairmont State has hosted this event.

Fairmont State University to host SkillsUSA State Competition March 22 – 23

The future workforce of West Virginia will be on display at the SkillsUSA West Virginia Championship hosted at Fairmont State University Friday, March 22 – Saturday, March 23 in the Feaster Center. SkillsUSA aims to provide solutions to the current and future demand for a skilled workforce by preparing career and technical students for jobs available within the state.

Local High Schools Compete at Fairmont State in Regional Academic Showdown

Two teams have advanced from the 2024 Academic Showdown regional competition held at Fairmont State University on March 8. Grafton High School Team 1, Taylor County, placed first, and Bridgeport High School Team 2, Harrison County, placed second, earning both teams a spot in the finale on April 23, at the West Virginia Culture Center in Charleston.

Fairmont State’s next Day of Giving takes place on February 29

Fairmont State University will host its fifth Falcon Day of Giving on Thursday, February 29 with a fundraising goal of $375,000. This 24-hour campaign aims to inspire Falcons to come together, show pride in their alma mater, and provide essential funding to support current and future students. Over 50 programs across campus, including academic units, athletic teams, student organizations, and student support initiatives will benefit from funds raised during this event.

Fairmont State’s Visit to State Capitol Sets Important Affairs in Motion

Fairmont State President Dr. Mike Davis and a delegation of students, faculty and staff visited the West Virginia State Capitol in Charleston on January 29. During the visit House representatives, senators and even Governor Jim Justice met with those visiting from the University to discuss important initiatives Fairmont State is taking for students and the community. To commemorate the day, January 29, 2024 was officially recognized as Fairmont State University Day at the West Virginia Legislature by the House and Senate.
