"Defying Gravity" Explores Story of the Challenger Disaster

The initial spring semester theatre offering by the Fairmont State University School of Fine Arts and Masquers theatre group is Jane Anderson’s “Defying Gravity,” a fictional account of the circumstances surrounding the 1986 Challenger space shuttle explosion that killed seven crew members, among them teacher Krista McAuliffe.

Issue 31 of Whetstone, Fairmont State University’s undergraduate arts and literary journal, recently won First Place with Special Honors in the 2012 Scholastic Magazine Awards competition hosted by the American Scholastic Press Association.

2013 Empty Bowls Project Helps Fight Hunger

For the sixth consecutive year, the Fairmont State University ceramics studio through the School of Fine Arts has hosted students, faculty, staff and alumni to participate in the Empty Bowls Project, which is an international grassroots, craft-based effort to end hunger.
