Director of Student Health Chelsea Collins selected as Generation Next: 40 Under 40 finalist

Fairmont State University’s Director of Student Health Chelsea Collins, APRN-FNP-C, was chosen as a recipient of The State Journal’s Generation Next: 40 under 40 award. Those selected are recognized as outstanding West Virginia professionals who have positively impacted their industries, fields, and communities. Collins was nominated for her notable contributions to student health at Fairmont State, and community efforts to promote wellness and mental health. Collins and the other finalists were honored at the Generation Next: 40 Under 40 award ceremony on June 19 at the Robinson Grand Performing Arts Center in Clarksburg, W.VA.

Fairmont State University robotics club receives grant funding

Fairmont State University’s College of Science and Technology has been awarded $2,000 in grant funding from the NASA WV Space Grant Consortium (WVSG): Support for Student Organizations and Higher Education Student Projects in STEM. The funding will support the Falcotronix Robotics Club, a STEM-focused student organization that aims to help Fairmont State students learn about STEM principles through practical engagement with robotics.

Fairmont State’s Falcon Park becomes certified wildlife habitat

The National Wildlife Federation recently certified the Falcon Park on Fairmont State’s campus as a Certified Wildlife Habitat. The certification is based on providing habitat for birds, butterflies and other wildlife that includes food sources, water, cover, resources to raise their young, and sustainable practices.

Fairmont State students win big at Alpha Phi Sigma conference

Fairmont State University’s chapter of the National Criminal Justice Honor Society returned from the annual Alpha Phi Sigma conference with 11 wins, including a first place win in the crime scene competition. Chapter president Carissa Russell led her team to a victory in what many consider the conference’s most challenging competition.

Fairmont State’s Community Health Promotion Program enters into Articulation Agreement with Blue Ridge Community and Technical College’s Criminal Justice Program

Fairmont State University’s Community Health Promotion program has entered into an articulation agreement with Blue Ridge Community and Technical College’s (BRCTC) Criminal Justice program.This agreement will help BRCTC criminal justice graduates expand their education through a simplified transfer process and allow them to better their careers and communities.

Fairmont State extends scholarship deadline and offers additional financial aid opportunities for new incoming students

With the recent FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) delays across the United States, Fairmont State University has identified a need to adjust the deadline for institutional scholarship applications and offer additional financial aid to new incoming students. The original scholarship application deadline of April 1 has been extended to August 1, 2024. This will allow those experiencing FAFSA delays more time to apply for the many scholarship opportunities offered at Fairmont State.

Fairmont State University Announces Datha and Gene Smith Fellows

Twenty students from West Virginia high schools have been selected to participate in this year’s Datha and Gene Smith Fellowship program. The exclusive fellowship program was developed to assist first-generation college students with their transition from high school to college. Unlike scholarships, fellowships provide long-term support, rather than one-time financial disbursement.

Free summer recreation for teens at Fairmont State’s Falcon Center

Fairmont State has initiated a summer recreation program for teens, which will be available starting May 13 until August 17. The program allows teens access to Campus Recreation areas in the Falcon Center including the fitness center, weight room, studio fitness rooms, indoor track, basketball courts, pool, spa and sauna, and access to any planned programs.
