  Fairmont State University awarded NCAA Division II grant for new administrator position

Joe Retton Arena aerial viewFairmont State University has been awarded $145,330 in grant funding from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II Strategic Alliance Matching Grant to create the Assistant Director of Athletics for External Affairs and Resource Development position in the Department of Athletics.

“We are grateful to receive support from the NCAA to expand the Fairmont State Athletics Department,” said Dr. Mike Davis, President of Fairmont State University. “The Assistant Director will be crucial in strengthening alumni and community relationships and supporting the success of our University and Fighting Falcons.”

The Assistant Director of Athletics for External Affairs and Resource Development will assist with external and donor relations and lead fundraising initiatives to advance athletic programs. Additionally, the Assistant Director will organize special events and will work closely with the Office of Alumni Relations and the Fairmont State Foundation to establish annual development goals for the Department of Athletics.

“Access to funding opportunities is a tremendous benefit of our membership in NCAA Division II. We are very thankful for being selected to receive this matching grant, as it will provide us with the resources needed as we move forward,” said Greg Bamberger, Fairmont State University’s Director of Athletics and project lead. “As Fairmont State and the Athletics Department grow, we will become more reliant on external resources. This new position will be critical in securing the funding necessary to advance Fairmont State Athletics.”

Dr. Anne Bolyard, President of the Fairmont State Foundation, will serve as the mentor for the new Assistant Director per the terms of the grant program. Bolyard will meet weekly with the Assistant Director, providing them with personalized support, guidance, and professional development opportunities.

“In partnership with the Director of Athletics, it will be important to guide the Assistant Director in the development of her or his own leadership skills as well as to further advance fundraising skills,” stated Bolyard. “This collaborative approach will allow the knowledge and talents of both areas to come together to reach the ultimate goal of securing additional needed funding for our student-athletes as well as the Athletics Department."
