STEM Day Camp for grades 7 and 8 available at Fairmont State this summer
Fairmont State University’s College of Science and Technology has organized a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Day Camp for students entering the 7th or 8th grade, set to take place on Tuesday, June 18. The camp begins at 9 a.m. in the Engineering Technology Building’s third-floor lobby and will conclude at 4 p.m. The cost for a student to attend is $25 and includes lunch and a free T-shirt.
The camp serves as a basic introduction to STEM and will include activities that immerse students in math, science and engineering technology.
“This will give middle schoolers an idea of what kind of majors and careers are out there related to STEM,” said assistant professor of civil engineering technology Tabitha Lafferre. “We saw a need for the camp because a lot of younger kids don’t get introduced to these subjects until later on. We wanted to inspire them early on to come into STEM careers. Studies do show the younger age groups are where you typically reach them and inspire them to pursue those careers.”
Registration for the day camp ends on June 4. Those interested in attending can register here.
