The Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center to host Writing Toward Healing

The Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center will host Pam R. Johnson Davis, a writer, historian, singer and educator, for an online presentation titled, “Writing Toward Healing,” taking place on Tuesday, March 23 at 7 p.m. 

Davis will examine the intersections of mental health, wellbeing and writing. She will also read from her book, Poetry From Seasons (I'll Be Seeing You): A collection of poems about heartbreak, healing, and redemption. Pam will provide tips for using writing as a resource for healing.

“There’s probably no better time for healing than Spring,” said Mirta M. Martin, Fairmont State University President. “Especially given what we’ve all been through over the past year. Stories, poetry, and writing have the power to heal both author and reader. I hope everyone joins in this online presentation, to share in and learn more about that process.”

Davis (M.A.) resides in Chicago, IL. She loves writing poetry, especially as she navigates life, loss and love. Her first book landed in the number one spot for New Releases in African-American Poetry and Women's Poetry on Amazon and won the "Best Urban Poetry" Book Award at the American Book Fest in August 2020.

“Our community has experienced incalculable loss during the last year. We think it is important to talk about healing as we document our pandemic stories for generations to come. We are thrilled to host Pam’s presentation,” noted Dr. Francene Kirk, Interim Director of the Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center.
