Fairmont State University’s Forensic Science Program Ranked Among Nation’s Best

Mar 18, 2021

Fairmont State University was recently recognized by Study.com for providing one of the best forensic science bachelor’s degree programs in the country.

“Fairmont State University doesn’t care about being the biggest school or being the most exclusive school – but we always strive for excellence,” said Mirta M. Martin, Fairmont State University President. “And our forensic science program is a perfect example of that. Expert teacher-mentors and unrivaled hands-on learning experiences, all offered at one of the most affordable tuition rates in the region. We’re honored by the ranking on Study.com, and we’re even more proud of the people who make this program a transformative, educational experience.”

Fairmont State ranked #30 among universities included on the website’s 2021 Best Bachelor’s Degrees in Forensic Science list. The rankings were compiled based on the following factors: comprehensive curricula in both the physical science and the criminal justice system, United State Department of Education data, accessibility, affordability, internship and research opportunities, faculty expertise and extracurricular opportunities.

Study.com praised the hands-on experience afforded to students enrolled in Fairmont State’s forensic science program as well as the University’s commitment to post-graduation success.

“One of the most unique and attractive resources at Fairmont State's forensic science program is its crime house that is dedicated specifically to housing mock crime scene investigations for forensic science students, allowing them to gain important field experience while positively engaging with the local community. The program also does an excellent job ensuring that students are well-qualified and equipped for employment soon after graduation, educating them in essential quantitative and qualitative skills and providing them with ample opportunities to work in laboratory settings.”

The University’s forensic science program is housed within the College of Science and Technology’s Department of Natural Sciences at Fairmont State. The program seeks to develop professional, ethical graduates whose competence in problem-solving, legal analysis and application, quantitative reasoning, investigation and scientific laboratory procedures can be applied to immediate employment or advanced study.

“Our faculty and students have developed a close-knit community of science scholars, and we are proud that we have recently obtained recognition as being a top-quality program by Study.com,” said Dr. Mark Flood, Forensic Science Program Coordinator. “We have also been recognized recently as being a top forensic science program in terms of affordability. Being recognized as being an affordable and quality program is a special recognition we are extremely proud of.”
