Fairmont State student invited to the NATS National Student Auditions

Fairmont State University Department of Music is proud to announce that music minor Anthony Hardy has recently won second place in the Upper Collegiate Music Theater category at the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Eastern Region Student Auditions. Due to his success in the Region Auditions, Hardy has been invited to participate in the NATS National Student Auditions.

Hardy is a junior majoring in psychology with a minor in sociology and music. A native of Clarksburg, WV, music and helping people has always been his passion. In fact, due to his strong desire to help people, he has chosen the path of therapy, counseling, and music.

“People have always had a tendency to trust me to give guidance and advice, as well as telling me personal things about their life that they wouldn't tell most people,” he said. “I wanted to use it [my ability to provide guidance and advice] to help people." 

Hardy qualified to participate in the Region Auditions by winning first place at the Tri-State NATS Student Auditions in November 2019. Auditions are normally held in person, but due to COVID-19 they were done by video submission this year. This isn’t the first time he has been recognized at Fairmont State for his outstanding work. In the Department of Psychology he was chosen to be one of the student ambassadors, where he helps incoming freshmen learn about the school and the major they have chosen.

In the Department of Music, Hardy continues to soar! He has earned quite a few scholarships, won first place in the NATS chapter auditions, second in the Regional auditions, and now he gets to go on to compete in the National competition, which he expressed that he was extremely grateful and excited for.

“The first portion is online, and if I proceed from there I will be going to Knoxville, so long as COVID-19 allows the competition to happen. No matter what happens, I'm so happy to have made it this far,” he said.   

After graduation next spring, he plans to continue his education by pursuing a Master’s Degree in therapy or counseling.
