Recent graduate's play selected by Barter Theatre's College Playwriting Festival

Fairmont State University graduate Sarah Hinerman was selected to read her short play at Barter Theatre’s College Playwriting Festival on January 19, 2020 at 1 p.m.  Barter Theatre’s College Playwrights Festival is a one-act playwriting festival dedicated to celebrating college undergraduate playwrights by giving them an opportunity to develop their work in a professional environment. 

Sarah’s play will be read and worked on by Barter’s Resident Acting Company where she will have the privilege of being assigned a director/dramaturge to work with her on the play.  

The play, Belle, pulls from the themes found in Peter Pan. In spirit of Peter’s adulthood, his father, Hook, decides that it is the perfect time to pass on the family business–his dingy little bait shop. Little did they both know that this deed would change their lives forever, and forever is an awfully long time. 

“From conception through multiple drafts, Sarah has not only created a terrific one-act play, but she’s also grown as a playwright. Through participation in Barter Theatre’s College Playwriting Festival, she will network and work side by side with peers and professional theatre artists -- a perfect next step for a promising theatre artist like Sarah,” said Fairmont State adjunct professor Dan V. Shea. 

Sarah Hinerman grew up in North Carolina where she first was introduced to the world of theatre. Currently residing in Clarksburg, WV, Sarah most recently earned a BA in Theatre from Fairmont State University in Fairmont, WV. From her first performance as a lost boy from Peter Pan to her most recent accomplishment at Fairmont State as Helena Landless from “The Mystery of Edwin Drood,” Sarah has honed her skills and plans to continue her career passion in writing and acting for the stage.
