Fairmont State 2019 Senior campaign goal: Beautify the Bell

Fairmont State University’s Student Government Association announced the 2019 Senior Campaign —Beautify the Bell—during a kick-off even held today in The Falcon Center. 

Senior Raychel Fitzwater, and acting Student Government Association president, said they chose the project to create a brick patio and seating area around the bell. They feel this is a great way to honor the Victory Bell’s upcoming 80th anniversary on campus. 

"When the SGA executive board was thinking of ideas for the focus of our campaign, the first thing that came to mind was the Bell. The Bell is a historic part of our campus and history we felt wasn’t being honored in the way it should be.,” she said. "The campaign offers our senior class an opportunity to leave our mark on the campus we love through a gift of $20.19. And we are not leaving out the rest of the Falcon Family. All faculty, staff, alumni, students and community members are welcome to join us in Beautifying the Bell through a gift of $50. All campaign donors will receive an engraved brick, which will be used in our new seating area.”

President Mirta Martin noted that the area on the quad where the bell is located is already a place on campus where students congregate. It’s a peaceful, serene part of campus that attracts students.

“Being able to place an area where they can sit, where they can study, they can congregate, where they can really become family, is creating a heart of the University,” she said. “I see this as being able to provide a venue, a pathway to congregate, to solidify family and really become one people, one family, one Falcon nation.”
