Snively Earns Highest ASCA Certification
Fairmont State University Head Men's and Women's Swimming Coach Patrick Snively recently earned a Level 5 certification from the American Swimming Coaches Association
of America (ASCA), the highest level achievable.
Snively, who wrapped up his 17th season as head coach this spring, directed the Fighting Falcons to the inaugural
MEC women's swimming championship edging West Virginia Wesleyan, 820.5-820.0. The
Fairmont State men also finished as MEC runner-up this season. During the four-day
championship event, the Falcons totaled seven individual event championships, five
NCAA B-cut times, set nine school records and had 39 top-eight finishes combined between
both the men's and women's programs. Additionally, he produced his 26th All-America
performance this spring when Marlena Dudek placed fifth in the 200 breaststroke event at the NCAA Championships. Dudek also
became the eighth athlete to earn conference Swimmer of the Year accolades under Snively's
direction.
For certification, ASCA gives credit for education, experience and achievement. Through
a combination of longevity, completing certification courses and guiding multiple
student-athletes to All-American status, Snively earned credit this season to move
from Level 4 to Level 5.
Of the nearly 13,000 coaches that have been certified by the ASCA, three to five percent
are Level 5 certified. An additional eight to nine percent are Level 4 and 15 to 18
percent of coaches are Level 3 certified.
