Mug Ruggin It’ weaver workshop at Folklife Center
Have you always wanted to try weaving? The Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife
Center is proud to partner with Tamarack Artist and Fairmont State alumna D. Jane
Gilchrest to present “Mug Ruggin It”, a weaving workshop in the style of traditional
Appalachian rag rugs. Join us on Wednesday, June 27 at the Folklife Center on the
campus of Fairmont State University for a two-hour introductory class.
Participants will create four to six coasters called “mug rugs.” The instructor provides
all of the equipment & materials. The looms are pre-wrapped and ready for you to
weave. Participants are welcome to bring a special piece of fabric or clothing such
as a shirt (100% cotton preferred) to make their pieces even more special.
Two class sessions will be offered at the Folklife Center on June 27. The first is at 10 a.m. The second is at 2 p.m. Each class runs about 2.5 hours and is suitable for all levels. The class size is 4 students, and pre-registration required. Contact Jane at 304-695-1580 to register.
Jane has been taking “Mug Ruggin It” to venues throughout the region for five years. This will be her first class offering in Marion County. For more information about Jane, go to LoomyLadi Handwovens on Facebook.
