Micah Hornak Named Men’s Tennis Coach at Fairmont State

Fairmont State Acting Director of Athletics Chad Fowler has announced the hiring of Micah Hornak as the new head coach of the men’s tennis program. Hornak was a two-time first team All-Mountain East Conference standout for the Falcons from 2015-17.

“We are excited to welcome Micah as our new men’s tennis coach,” said Fowler. “Micah is well known in the tennis community and his passion for the game is exactly what we were looking for while making this hire.

“Our men’s tennis program has wrapped up back-to-back historic seasons and we believe Micah will continue that success as the leader of the program,” Fowler added.

Hornak was a team captain and helped lead Fairmont State to a share of the Mountain East Conference Regular Season Championship in 2017. The Regular Season Championship was the first since 1989 for the men’s tennis program at Fairmont State. The senior picked up nine victories at No. 2 singles and teamed with Dillon Early at No. 3 doubles to earn 14 victories for the Falcons.

As a junior, Hornak was a standout at No. 1 singles and doubles, earning six singles and doubles victories after joining the program in the spring semester as a transfer from West Virginia University.

“As a former Fairmont State student-athlete, I took great pride in wearing the Fairmont State uniform, and now as a coach our program will continue to represent the school with great pride and we will work hard every day to keep the program strong and growing at a high level,” said Hornak. “The Fairmont State men’s tennis program has made great strides over the past few years, and I am excited for the opportunity to keep the men’s tennis program relevant at Fairmont State.”

In addition to his success on the court as a collegiate standout, Hornak has also been working as a tennis instructor/professional since 2012. Hornak is currently the Assistant Tennis Professional at Summit Tennis Academy, formerly Ridgeview Racquet Club. Prior to being named Assistant Tennis Professional in August 2017, Hornak served as a tennis instructor at Ridgeview Racquet Club from June 2012-May 2017, assisting with advanced clinics that produced numerous state championships during his five-year tenure as an instructor.

Hornak also served as Assistant Tennis Professional at Greenbrier Resort Tennis and Fitness during the summer of 2017 under head tennis professional Terry Deremer.

Hornak is a Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) certified coach, holding certifications for 10-and-under, 11-17 and performance training categories.

Hornak graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Exercise Science from Fairmont State University in the spring of 2018. He currently resides in Morgantown.
