Area’s premier summer camp opens June 18

May 30, 2018

Families looking for a safe and engaging summer camp can now register their children, ages 6-12, for Falcon Camp. In its eleventh season, Falcon Camp provides games, sports, water activities and educational activities in one-week sessions from June 18 to August 3. Parents or guardians can register children for one to six weeks.

“The Falcon Camp provides campers both educational and recreational activities planned out each week according to a specific theme,” said camp director Phil Locante. “Themes help to create educational opportunities for campers and are incorporated into our programming, recreation games and daily lunches.”

Along with scheduled lessons, outside vendors are also brought in to help enhance both the educational and recreational aspects of the camp.

“We encourage outdoor activities as much as possible and are also fortunate that our facility allows us to operate regardless of inclement weather—we can simply move things inside.”

Starting this year camp hours have been adjusted to include early drop off beginning at 7:45 a.m. and late pick up lasting until 5:30 p.m., with no additional charge or fees.

“Safety is a priority for the Falcon Camp. Our camp counselors are trained and certified in CPR, AED, and First Aid prior to the start of camp, and we have two certified lifeguards on duty during swimming hours.”

In order to enhance camper safety and supervision, camp activities have been moved from Falcon Center Gym 2 to Gym 1. Restrooms and water fountains are located inside the gym, reducing the need for campers to leave the direct supervision of the staff.

“The average camper to counselor ratio is approximately 10:1. That kind of individual attention is hard to beat at a summer camp. At Fairmont State, no Falcon, even our Jr. Falcons, are a number. Personalized, individual attention is what we take pride in providing all summer long.”

Pre-registration is not required although a discount is provided to those that register by the Thursday prior to the week they are attending. For more information on Falcon camp and to register visit, fairmontstate.edu/camp
