Spring game planned for April 12

Apr 09, 2018

Fairmont State head football coach Jason Woodman and his coaching staff will cap their sixth year of spring drills with the annual "Maroon & White" Spring Game on Thursday, April 12 at Duvall-Rosier Field.

The game is slated for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff and is free of charge for all fans. The spring game wraps up spring drills/practice for the Falcons and will give fans the opportunity to get a first look at the 2018 Fairmont State Fighting Falcons football team.

Fairmont State will return to the field in 2018 coming off its third-consecutive winning season, which includes two consecutive seasons of eight-wins or more for the first time in 52 years (1964, 1965). Fairmont State has also recorded a winning record in three-consecutive seasons for the first time since 1999-2001.

FSU went 6-4 in 2015, 10-2 with an NCAA Division II playoff bid in 2016 and finished the year with an 8-3 mark in 2017. Fairmont State's three losses a season ago came by just 14 combined points.

In 2018, the Falcons will return eight players that earned All-Mountain East Conference honors during Fairmont State's 2017 campaign, including a pair of Don Hansen honorable mention All-Americans in cornerback Michael Porter and safety Stephen Turner.

Standout right tackle Garrett Kapstein-O'Brien will join Porter and Turner as a trio of first team All-MEC selections that will be returning for the Falcons in '18. Defensive end D.J. Adediwura, outside linebacker Jerry Iweh and punter Sam Tucker each earned second team honors a season ago, and sophomore wide receiver Andre Hall and junior linebacker Antonio Harris were each tabbed as MEC honorable mention selections following the 2018 season.

Fairmont State will open the 2018 season with a regional showdown at Stonehill College on Friday, Aug. 31. FSU will open the home portion of its schedule on Saturday, Sept. 8 against Urbana in Mountain East Conference action at Duvall-Rosier Field.
