Final Wind Ensemble Concert of the Semester

Apr 25, 2018

The Fairmont State University department of music is excited to announce the final Wind Ensemble concert of the spring semester. The concert will be performed in the Wallman Hall Theatre on the campus of Fairmont State on Wednesday, May 2, at 7:30 p.m.

Under the direction of, Professor Robert Hickey Jr., the Fairmont State Wind Ensemble concert will present its final concert of the semester. This concert will feature, Grant Cooper, conducting Ralph Vaughan Williams' “English Folk Song Suite”. Grant Cooper retired in 2017 as artistic director and conductor of the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra. “When I first learned that Grant Cooper would be involved in an Artist in Residency program here at Fairmont State I was beyond excited for him to work with our Wind Ensemble. For the past few years I have made it a point to program classic band literature for our students to work on and when Grant told me that he was familiar with Vaughn Williams’ “English Folk Song Suite” I knew that it would fit perfectly into our repertoire. Grant is an amazing musician, composer, and person and I know that our students will thoroughly enjoy working with him. I know I will!” said Professor Robert Hickey Jr., Director of Bands. Other selections will include “Handle in the Strand” (Percy Grainger), “On a Hymnsong of Philip Bliss” (David Holsinger), “A Movement for Rosa” (Mark Camphouse), and “Danzon” (Leonard Bernstein).

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in Wallman Hall Theatre at Fairmont State. Admission is free and the concert is open to the public. For more information or to schedule a media interview please contact Robert Hickey Jr. at 304-367-4206 or rhickey@fairmontstate.edu.
