Jenny Wilson Trio comes to Fairmont State University

Mar 19, 2018

The Fairmont State University department of music is excited to welcome the Jenny Wilson Trio to the campus of Fairmont State. They will be presenting a free concert of jazz music at the Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center on Saturday, March 24 at 7:30 p.m.

The Jenny Wilson Trio is a jazz group that focuses on original music as well as classic and contemporary standards.  Jenny Wilson is a composer, pianist, flutist and vocalist.  Originally from Queens, New York, Jenny is a graduate of WVU’s Master of Music Jazz Pedagogy program and has toured in Switzerland, Austria and Germany.  Her main compositional influences are Thelonious Monk and Wayne Shorter. Bassist Nathan Wilson is Jenny’s husband and also performs with the Squonk Opera from Pittsburgh, PA. He is especially attuned to the melodic style of playing that brings that music that gives the group their unique sound.  Drummer Kyle Andrews has his Master of Music degree from Bloomington, Indiana and is an instructor at West Virginia Wesleyan College.  He is an in-demand drummer with a great versatility and range in his ability to play with all styles of jazz.

This is the community’s chance to hear original jazz music, as well as unique arrangements of popular songs that appeal to a wide audience. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Folklife Center at Fairmont State. Admission is free and open to the public. For more information please contact Prof. Brian F. Wright at (304) 333-3645 or bwright12@fairmontstate.edu.
