Feb 08, 2017

The Fairmont State University Department of Music will host on campus a free performance by the U.S. Fleet Forces Band Wind Ensemble, presented by the U.S. Navy, on Tuesday, Feb. 14.

The concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, in Colebank Hall on the FSU main campus. Admission is free and open to the public.

“We are excited to be able to host the U.S. Navy Fleet Forces Band Wind Ensemble on our campus for our students and community members. Concerts like this allow our music students to hear the everyday application of their studies in a professional setting,” said Robert Hickey, Director of Bands for FSU. “This opportunity also offers our community audience first-rate entertainment by an outstanding performing organization.”

The U.S. Fleet Forces Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Lieutenant Robert J. Coats, is the largest of the U.S. Fleet Forces Band’s performing units. The band’s repertoire ranges from traditional military marches and patriotic favorites to the finest works from wind band literature. The Wind Ensemble performs at military and community events throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region. The Ensemble is also available for educational concerts, master-classes and instructional clinics for students. Maintaining a reputation of consistent quality and versatility, the U.S. Fleet Forces Wind Ensemble endures as one of Virginia’s most respected performing ensembles.
