FSU Hosts Dominion WV State Science & Engineering Fair on March 28

The 2015 Dominion West Virginia State Science and Engineering Fair (WVSSEF) will be held on Saturday, March 28, at Fairmont State University.

Students in grades nine through 12 are eligible to enter. More than 50 projects are registered for the event, representing 17 schools from throughout the state. There are 16 categories for the entries. Projects must be in one of the following areas: Animal Sciences,
Behavioral and Social Sciences, Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth and Planetary Science, Engineering: Electrical and Mechanical, Engineering: Materials and Bioengineering, Energy and Transportation, Environmental Management, Environmental Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Medicine and Health Sciences, Microbiology, Physics and Astronomy or Plant Sciences.

Two grand-prize winners will be selected to advance to the INTEL International Science and Engineering Fair in Pittsburgh on May 10-15, 2015. This will include registration fees, ground transportation, and lodging for the participant(s) and one chaperone per project. Multiple cash awards will also be given.

The 2015 Dominion WVSSEF is sponsored by Dominion, the Fairmont State University College of Science and Technology, West Virginia High Tech Consortium Foundation, NASA West Virginia Space Grant Consortium and the Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh.

All events will take place on the Fairmont State University campus in Fairmont. Set up of projects will begin on Friday, March 27, between 3 and 5 p.m.  Judging begins on Saturday, March 28, at 10 a.m.  The awards ceremony will start at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 28, in Colebank Hall Gym.

Members of the community are encouraged to visit on Saturday and take part in both the public viewing of projects in the Engineering Technology Building from 1:30-3:30 p.m. and the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Activity Stations from noon-3:30 p.m. in Colebank Gym. Stations will be provided by the NASA IV&V Facility Educator Resource Center, WVU Next Generation Forensic Science Initiative, WVU Engineering and the Space Public Outreach Team.
