Campus Police Officers Recognized for Graduating from Academy

Feb 27, 2015

Three police officers in the Department of Public Safety, which provides services for Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College, graduated from the West Virginia State Police Academy Basic Class in 2014. The new certified officers—C.J. Funk, Jared Martin and John Nigh—were recognized by the FSU Board of Governors for their accomplishment.

C.J. Funk is a Campus Police Officer for the Department of Public Safety.

Martin worked for the Department of Public Safety as the director of student security while attending FSU from 2009, until he graduated in August 2013. He was hired in February 2014 as a campus police officer. Martin serves as a patrolman with the Department of Public Safety, where he provides routine campus patrols, answers calls for service and other duties within the department. Martin and his fiancé Sara, a nursing major at FSU, currently reside in Fairmont and plan on getting married in June 2015.

Nigh was hired in 2009 as a security officer and an emergency medical responder. In 2012, he was placed in the position of AED program coordinator in addition to his other duties; in 2014 he took on the position as police officer and also kept his responsibilities as AED program coordination and medical responder. Nigh graduated from the West Virginia State Police Academy on Oct.10, 2014. Nigh, his wife Marci and their two children, Mitchell and Macey, live in Fairmont.
