FSU Reads Program Offers Reading Enrichment

Feb 11, 2014

The Fairmont State University Reads program is preparing for its spring 2014 reading enrichment program.

The free program available to Marion County students in kindergarten through fourth grade will begin the week of March 3. The after-school program will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays in Room 215 of the Turley Student Services Center on FSU’s main campus. The sessions will continue each week through April 7.

Fairmont State students will serve as Reads mentors after completing an intensive training session. Each week, elementary students will hear stories, play vocabulary games and complete writing/art projects. The program is presented to enhance children’s love of reading. Although it is not a tutoring program, emphasis is placed on good reading practices. A major goal of FSU Reads is to assist children in developing self-esteem and embracing diversity.

To register children, contact Megan Stivason, FSU Reads Graduate Assistant, at (304) 367-4204 or FSUReads@fairmontstate.edu.

Those who register children should submit the following information:

  • Student’s name.
  • Student’s grade and school.
  • Parent/guardian name.
  • Phone number.
  • Additional information (allergies, health concerns).
