FSU Musicians to Perform at Noteworthy Sweets on Feb. 21

Feb 17, 2014

Musicians from the Fairmont State University School of Fine Arts will perform an evening of music beginning at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, at Noteworthy Sweets, 91 Fairmont Ave., Fairmont. The program will pair the sweet sounds of FSU’s Music Department with the sweet treats available for purchase during the program.

The Noteworthy Sweets performance is free and open to the public. Food, dessert and coffee will be available for purchase. Seating is limited so arriving early is recommended. For more information, call (304) 367-4219.

The collaboration between the Music Department and Noteworthy Sweets connects a love of music and a love of baked goods. Gwen Hoffmaster, Noteworthy Sweet’s proprietor and head chef, is an enthusiastic supporter of music and the arts in Fairmont. Attendees to the concert, as many as can squeeze into the local bakery, will feast on this connection between aural and edible delights.

Featured on the program is vocalist Briana Pudsell singing “Non So Piú Cosa Son” from Mozart’s “Le nozze di Figaro” and pianist Rayme Pullen performing selections from Robert Schumann’s “Papillons.” Guitarist Benjamin Male will perform works by Bach and Lauro along with Debussy’s “First Arabesque” with clarinetist Kayla Keefover. Also on the program are trumpeter Andy Grindle and students from the Fairmont State Academy of the Arts.

This concert is part of the FSU Music Department “Make Some Noise” campaign, which has the goal to bridge the high-caliber music-making at FSU with non-traditional audiences across Fairmont. The season will climax on Saturday, April 26, with the combined Fairmont State Wind Ensemble, Collegiate Singers and Community Chorus performing Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana,” a 20th-century landmark work and performance spectacle.
