Gift from Alumna Funds FSU Student Scholarships

The gift of a Fairmont State University alumna and former employee illustrates the significant impact possible through planned giving.

A bequest from the Mary K. Kaiser and John P. Kaiser Family Trust will provide more than $330,000 to the Fairmont State Foundation, Inc., that will be used for FSU student scholarships.

“With support from the Fairmont State Foundation and donors like the Kaiser family, Fairmont State University continues to meet students’ needs for financial aid and to provide a unique learning environment close to home in North Central West Virginia,” said FSU President Maria Rose.

A Fairmont native, Mary Kaiser graduated from East Fairmont High School in 1946 and from Fairmont State in 1950. She served as bookkeeper and secretary to the registrar at Fairmont State from 1947 to 1950. She was employed by Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad Co. and the FBI as secretary to the president from 1950 to 1954. Preceded in death by her husband John P. Kaiser, Mary Kaiser died in January 2013 in Bridgeport.

“With thoughtful planning by the Kaiser family, future students at Fairmont State University will have access to scholarship funds which will reduce the cost of their college education,” said William B. Armistead, President of the Fairmont State Foundation. “Gifts donors make through a designation in a will create a positive impact and cost nothing to them or their families during their lifetime.”
