FSU to Host State Science and Engineering Fair

The West Virginia State Science and Engineering Fair will take place on Saturday, March 23, at Fairmont State University.

Students in grades nine through 12 are eligible to enter. Last year, there were 66 participants from 16 high schools. There are 13 categories for the entries. Projects must be in one of the following areas: Behavioral & Social Science; Botany; Computer Science; Engineering; Mathematics; Microbiology; Zoology; Biochemistry; Chemistry; Earth & Space Science; Environmental Sciences; Medicine & Health; Physics.

One Grand-Prize Winner will be selected to advance to the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Phoenix, Ariz., on May 12 - 17, 2013. The prize includes airfare, ground transportation and lodging for the participant and one chaperone. The cost of display shipping also will be covered. This event is sponsored by the FSU College of Science and Technology, the Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh, the West Virginia Academy of Science and the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission’s Division of Science and Research.

Set-up will take place on Friday, March 22, between 3 and 5 p.m. The projects will be available for public viewing between 5 and 7 p.m. on Friday, March 22. Judging will take place on Saturday, March 23, between 9:30 a.m. and noon.
