Exhibition Focuses on Possible Effects of Marcellus Shale Industry
A new exhibit by an alumnus of Fairmont State University’s Studio Art program will focus on the possible effects of Marcellus Shale gas drilling. The first exhibition of 2012 will be the exhibition titled “A Penny for a Dime” by Miles Holbert. An opening reception is planned from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, in the James D. Brooks Memorial Gallery, located on the fourth floor of Wallman Hall on the FSU main campus.

Holbert, a 2008 graduate of the FSU Studio Art program, will complete his M.A.T. this year. While a student in the Art Department, Holbert was awarded Best of Show in the annual Kappa Pi Juried Student Exhibitions for the years 2007 and 2008; was the recipient of the 2007 Arts and Humanities Commission Award; and in 2009 was runner-up for inclusion in New American Paintings. His work has been included the 2007 High Gate Mansion Art and Humanities Exhibition, Fairmont, and the 2009 NY AXE Gallery exhibition in Palo Alto, Calif. In 2008, Holbert’s work was published in FSU’s Whetstone journal.
Following the Holbert exhibition, an exhibit titled “Reflections: Homage to Dunkard Creek” will be on display in the Brooks Gallery from Feb. 2-24. Several of the paintings in the “Reflections” exhibition already have received national exposure.
