Sept. 8 Last Day for Student Government Nominations

Student Government would like to remind all Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical Students that the final day for nominations for open positions for the next election is Thursday, Sept. 8. All students interested in joining Student Government should attend the meeting at 12:30 p.m. in Room 128 Hardway Hall.

Student Government 2011 Fall Election

Position Descriptions

Mission of Student Government:Student Government is charged with governing all matters pertaining to the student life at Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College.

Who is Eligible to run for Student Government?

All students who:

  • Are enrolled in at least 12 credit hours this semester,
  • Have a minimum of a 2.0 cumulative GPA at the time of their nomination, unless there is no Academic Standing requirement for the position, as indicated for first year Freshman nominees.
  • Some positions require a student to have already completed 24 or 30 credit hours at FSU or Pierpont, as indicated.
  • Some positions are specific for either FSU or Pierpont students, as indicated.

Student Government Duties:

All Student Government members will be expected, regardless of position, to:

  • Attend all weekly SG meetings on Thursdays at 12:30pm in 128 Hardway,
  • Sign Up for & fulfill a weekly office hour in the SG office in the Falcon Center,
  • Volunteer for various SG sponsored events and community service initiatives,
  • Serve on and attend meetings for at least one campus committee, as appointed by the SG President,
  • Attend as many SG sponsored events as your schedule permits,
  • Attend a SG Fall & Spring Retreat, the Fall retreat will be September 23-25.
  • Attend the Annual Student Leadership Conference in February.
  • SG members are not eligible to compete in SG sponsored contests during their term in office.

 

The following positions are only open to Pierpont students:

Pierpont Faculty Assembly:Will Elect 1Must have completed 24 credit hours by the end of this semester and be a Pierpont student with a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Faculty Assembly generally meets once a month throughout the academic calendar. Must attend all Faculty Assembly Meetings. Faculty Assembly is comprised of Pierpont faculty members from the various schools & departments of Pierpont Community & Technical College. The term of office is from September 2011 to end of March 2012.

*Pierpont Representatives: Will Elect 6- Must be currently enrolled as a Pierpont student and have a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA.  Academic Standing is not required of first year Freshmen. Will be considered an at large representative for Pierpont. The term of office is from September 2011 to end of September 2012 or until one wins another position in SG during the Spring 2012 SG elections. Position is now combined with the Pierpont House of Representatives duties/title.

 

 

The following positions are only open to FSU students:

FSU Faculty Senate:Will elect 1- Must have already completed 30 credit hours and be an FSU student with a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Faculty Senate generally meets once a month throughout the academic calendar. Must attend all Faculty Senate Meetings. Faculty Senate is comprised of FSU faculty members from the various schools & departments of FSU. The term of office is from September 2011 to end of March 2012.

FSU House of Representatives:Will Elect 6 - Must have already completed 24 credit hours and be an FSU student with a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Will be considered an at large representative for FSU. The term of office is from September 2011 to end of March 2012.

Junior Senator: Will Elect 2 - Must have already completed 60 credit hours and be an FSU student with a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA.  Pierpont does not recognize “Junior” as a class rank. Will represent your class among SG and will be expected to plan programming and student service projects for your respective class. The term of office is from September 2011 to end of March 2012.

Senior Senator: Will Elect 2 - Must have completed 90 credit hours at FSU and be an FSU student with a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA.  Pierpont does not recognize “Senior” as a class rank. Will represent your class among SG and will be expected to plan programming and student service projects for your respective class. The term of office is from September 2011 to end of March 2012.

 

The following positions are open to FSU or Pierpont Students:

*Freshman Senator: Will Elect 3- Must be a first year Freshman FSU or Pierpont student. Academic Standing is not required of first year Freshmen. Will represent your class among SG and will be expected to plan programming and student service projects for your respective class. The term of office is from September 2011 to end of September 2012 or until one wins another position in SG during the Spring 2012 SG elections.

Sophomore Senator:Will Elect 2- Must have already completed 30 credit hours at FSU or Pierpont and have a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Will represent your class among SG and will be expected to plan programming and student service projects for your respective class. The term of office is from September 2011 to end of March 2012.

Advisory CouncilRepresentative Will Elect 1 - Must have completed 30 credit hours at FSU or Pierpont by the end of this semester. Will lead the Student Organization Advisory Council Meetings. Would be helpful if nominee has prior student organization experience and/or has attended any Advisory Council meetings in the past. The term of office is from September 2011 to end of March 2012.  There will be 3 mandatory Advisory Council meetings each semester.
