Curry Named Assistant Vice President for Human Resources and Campus/Community Relations
Fairmont State University has named Cynthia Sherbs Curry as the Assistant Vice President for Human Resources and Campus/Community Relations. The position also provides services to Pierpont Community & Technical College.
“I am pleased to announce the appointment of Cynthia Curry. She brings many years of experience in the human resources field. She is a certified compensation professional, as well as a certified senior professional in human resources. She will be working closely with all FSU and Pierpont institutional schools and departments in the upcoming months,” said Rick Porto, FSU Vice President of Administrative and Fiscal Affairs.
Curry is a1973 alumna of Fairmont State College who graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in Psychology. She later earned an M.A. in English and American Language/Literature from Ohio University. Prior to her appointment at FSU, Curry filled the role of Director, Classification and Compensation at West Virginia University where she began employment in August 2001.
“I am so happy to be back on the campus where my adult life started and where I learned to learn; now it’s time to pay it all forward, and I feel honored and privileged,” Curry said.
During her career as a human resources professional, Curry has been awarded the National Association of Counties (NACo) national achievement award for development and implementation of a general government and schools unified pay system. She is a member in good standing of the Society for Human Resource Management and holds a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification, as well as a Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) certification from WorldatWork.
Curry replaces Steve Leach, who served as Assistant Vice President of Human Resources, Safety and Campus/Community Relations from April 1994 through December 2010. Leach currently serves as Vice President of Organization and Development for Pierpont Community & Technical College.
