Fishing Falcons Advance to Northern Division Regional Championship
Two members of the Fairmont State University Fishing Falcons will compete in the National Guard FLW College Northern Division Regional Championship in September 2011.
Brent Dodrill, an occupational safety major from Fairmont, and Wil Dieffenbauch, a civil engineering major from Hundred, won the National Guard FLW College Fishing Northern Division on Lake Champlain in June 2011.
The pair caught five bass weighing a total of 16 pounds, two ounces. The win earned the Fishing Falcons $10,000, which will be split between the university and the fishing club. This is the third consecutive year the club from FSU has qualified for the Northern Regional Championship.
The top five teams from each tournament qualify for the regional championship, where the first-place team will win $12,500 cash for its school, as well as $12,500 cash and a Ranger 177TR bass boat with a 90 horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard wrapped in school colors for its fishing club. This year’s regional championship will be held Sept. 1-3 at Sayers Lake, Bald Eagle State Park in State College, Pa.
The Club Sports Program of Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College promotes participation in a wide variety of activities, complementing the Intramural Sports Program and the Varsity Athletic Program. The Fishing Falcons is a recognized Club Sport.
Club Sports are designed to help students develop leadership, financial and organizational management skills through the opportunity to create, organize and run their own club. The Department of Intramurals advises the clubs and provides administrative assistance, but the success of each club depends on the dedication and commitment of its student leaders and members.
