FSU Dance Team Receives First Place Trophy at Starpower Dance Competition

The Fairmont State University Dance Team attended its first competition on April 2 in Charleston, WV. The team members who performed were Kristin Phillips, Emma Van Scoy, Stephanie Yost, Shannon Bechman, Meghan Evick, Ashley Dillion, Lauralea Griffith, and Leanne Ansar.

The team brought back the 1st place 20 & Over Hip-Hop Award and the 5th place 20 & Over Overall Award. The Dance Team performed a hip-hop routine to a mix of songs including "Low" by Florida, "Like a G6" by Far East Movement, and "Baby Got Back" by Sir Mix-A-Lot.

"It was a pretty last minute decision to attend this competition but I am very glad that we did and very pleased at the results," said Ally Chichester, Fairmont State Univesity Dance Team Coach. "I am very proud of the team. All of the girls worked so hard and I look forward to more opportunities like this." 

Other teams competing traveled from areas in West Virginia such as Huntington and Elkins. The team plans to participate in more competitions this coming year and host their own dance festival in the spring.
