School of Business Academic Awards and Scholarship Reception Set for April 29

The annual School of Business Academic Awards and Scholarship Reception will be held on April 29, 2011 in the Falcon Center Conference Rooms.  Each year the School of Business awards over a dozen student scholarships worth over $30,000 during this event.  When possible, the donor is invited to attend the event to meet their scholarship recipient.  This year the Information Systems Student Organization (ISSO) scholarship will be awarded for the first time.  

ISSO operates a Computer Repair Center in Jaynes Hall which serves the university population by providing basic desktop and laptop maintenance.

The Computer Repair Center has proven so successful that the ISSO students decided to start funding scholarships for the students who work in the center.  “This is a true ‘win-win’ situation.  The students learn how to operate a successful computer repair business and then ‘give back’ to the School of Business in the form of scholarships,” says Dean Harvey.

Outstanding students in each degree program, Accounting, Business Administration, and Information Systems Management are recognized and receive a cash award.  Dean Harvey reports, “This event has proven quite popular with our students and faculty.  It gives us an opportunity to recognize these outstanding students and also meet their families and support group.”

The Kappa Omicron chapter of Delta Mu Delta also holds an induction ceremony during this event.  Delta Mu Delta is an international honor society dedicated to recognizing business students who have distinguished themselves academically.  Faculty members and business leaders who have experienced measurable success in their profession are also inducted as honorary members. 

Delta Mu Delta was founded in 1913 by five professors from Harvard, Yale, and New York University and is the highest national recognition a business student can earn.

Also the School of Business Professor of the Year and Adjunct Professor of the Year, as selected by students and faculty, are recognized.  Dean Harvey adds, “This year we scheduled our School of Business Advisory Board meeting for the same day.  We hope the Advisory Board members will stay for the Awards event and meet some of our outstanding students.”
