Free Concert to Feature Two Guest Musicians
The Fairmont State University Community Orchestra will present a concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 10, featuring the music of William Boyce, Ludwig van Beethoven, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Franz Joseph Haydn. The program, conducted by John Ashton, and featuring Robert Henry on piano and Kimberly Henry on horn, will be held in the Wallman Hall Theatre on the FSU campus. Admission to the concert is free and open to the public.
Robert Henry
Hailed as a “consummate artist — brilliant, formidable, effortless, and the epitome of control and poise,” Robert Henry is an internationally distinguished pianist, winning universal acclaim as orchestral soloist, recitalist, accompanist and chamber musician. Possessing the rare combination of insight, inspiration and a dazzling technique, he continues to touch and electrify audiences around the world.
Henry’s career highlights include 2002 solo debut recitals at Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center, with critics praising his “flawless technique, smooth and limpid phrasing, exciting programming.” He has presented concert tours of the United States, England, Nova Scotia, and Italy. This year, Henry will present his London debut in prestigious Wigmore Hall.
He earned the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Maryland, with additional studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music and the Glinka Conservatory in St. Petersburg, Russia. He has studied closely with pianists Larissa Dedova, Sergei Dzevanovsky, Anne Koscielny, David Watkins, Sergei Babayan and André Watts.
As an educator and pedagogue, Robert Henry presents lectures, masterclasses, residencies, youth concerts and has been featured in American Music Teacher. He has served as clinician and juror for state, regional, and national MTNA conventions and competitions. He operates an exclusive private studio in Atlanta, Ga. Currently, he is Artistic Director of the “Great Performances Concert Series” in Highlands, N.C., and serves as Artist-in-Residence at Kennesaw State University in Atlanta.
Kim Henry
Kim Henry is a 2010 graduate of Fairmont State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music. She is a 2000 graduate of Spring Grove Senior High School in Spring Grove, Pa. While a student at FSU, she performed with the FSU Wind Ensemble, Marching Band, Jazz Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble and the FSU Community Orchestra.
Prior to her enrollment at FSU, Henry studied music at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She has studied horn with Beth Lucas of York, Pa., Jack Scandrett of IUP, and John Ashton at Fairmont State. She is also an alumna member of Sigma Alpha Iota Women’s Honorary Music Fraternity. Henry has performed with the Pennsylvania Ambassadors of Music touring Europe and also has toured with groups in Hawaii. She currently works for FSU as Box Office Manager in the School of Fine Arts, as well as the staff of Gateway United Methodist Church in Fairmont.
