Students Honored for Academic Achievement

Fairmont State University honored students for their academic achievement and named scholarship recipients at the 33rd annual Academic Awards Celebration on May 7.

Scholarships and awards are made possible through generous gifts made to the Fairmont State Foundation, Inc.


Caleb Aites

Caleb Aites, a freshman Mathematics major, received the Robert L. Carroll Scholarship. A 2009 graduate of East Fairmont High School, he is the son of Dennis and Cathy Aites of Fairmont. He is the vice president of the Morgantown Chess Club.

Joe Angotti, a sophomore Chemistry major, received the Vincent & Catherine Sansalone Scholarship. A 2008 graduate of Notre Dame High School, he is the son of Michael Angotti and Janet Cogar of Clarksburg. He is a member of the Fighting Falcons Football Team, has been on the Dean's List and the College of Science and Technology Dean's List, has been a member of an Intramurals basketball team and is a PROMISE Scholar.

Hillary Barlow, a senior Music Education major, received the MENC Chapter 315 Outstanding Music Educator Award, the Sigma Alpha Iota Scholastic Award and was recognized as the winner of the FSU Concerto Competition. A 2006 graduate of Preston High School, she is the daughter of Thomas J. and Marta L. Barlow of Kingwood. She has been a collegiate member of the American Choral Directors Association since 2006; a collegiate member of the National Association for Music Educators since 2006 and secretary of that group from 2008-2009; a member of Sigma Alpha Iota women's international honorary music fraternity since 2007, serving as president from 2008-2009, treasurer from 2007-2008 and 2009-2010 and sergeant at arms from 2007-2008; and vice president from 2008-2009 of Kappa Kappa Psi honorary band fraternity. She has been a member of the FSU Collegiate Singers, the Marching Band and the Wind Ensemble for four years, the Chamber Choir for three years and the Piano Ensemble and the Percussion Ensemble for one year. She recently performed as soloist during the Inauguration for FSU President Tom Krepel and with the FSU Community Orchestra.

Julie Batten received the Marjorie R. Hoult Lough Endowed Scholarship.

Gabrielle Allyse Beech, a junior Elementary Education- Master's in Reading major, received the Victor & Mary Carr Racinger Endowed Scholarship. A 2007 graduate of Bridgeport High School, she is the daughter of Edward J. and Barbara J. Beech of Bridgeport. She is a PROMISE Scholar and is a past recipient of the Maroon and White Scholarship in 2008, the Lion's Club Scholarship in 2007, the West Virginia Italian Festival Scholarship in 2007, the Family Weekend Scholarship in 2009, the Victor & Mary Carr Racinger Endowed Scholarship in 2009 and the Sigma Sigma Sigma Scholarship in 2008. She is a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority and has held offices including honor council chairman in 2007; treasurer, fundraising chairman and philanthropy chairman in 2008; education director, alumnae relations and award chairman in 2009; and vice president and ritual chairman in 2010.


Katie Bennett

Katie Bennett, a senior Criminal Justice major, received the Criminal Justice Achievement Award. A 2004 graduate of Philip Barbour High School, she is the daughter of Bryan and Kim Nicholson of Belington. She and her husband Dustin and their children Zachariah and Nathan reside in Belington. She received an Associate degree in Paralegal Studies from Pierpont Community & Technical College in 2007.


Courtney Bolyard

Courtney Marie Bolyard, a senior Elementary Education major, received the Nancy Marie Duling Memorial Teacher Education Endowed Scholarship. A 2007 graduate of Hampshire High School, she is the daughter of Bradley Bolyard of Winchester, Va., and Natalie Combs of Romney. She has been a member of Student Government and of Baptist Campus Ministries since 2007 and served as president for Baptist Campus Ministries from 2008-2009. She has been on the Dean's List and the President's List.

Laura Bonasso received the Lundix & Angela Saverino Scholarship.

 
Candace Bonecutter

Candace Bonecutter, a junior Secondary Education (Social Studies) major, received the Kappa Delta Pi Outstanding Secondary Education Award and the William and Doretha Clayton Barnes Prize in History. A 2007 graduate of Point Pleasant High School, she is the daughter of Johnny and Denise Bonecutter of Point Pleasant. She has been a member of the FSU Competitive Cheer Team for three years, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Chi Alpha, Phi Alpha Theta and Pi Gamma Mu. She has been on the Dean's List and the President's List for five semesters.


Molly Born

Molly Born, a senior French major, received the Outstanding Student in Journalism Award. A 2006 graduate of East Fairmont High School, she is the daughter of Don and Liz Born of Fairmont. She was editor of The Columns student newspaper in 2008-2009 and 2009-2010. She is a member of the Honors program and the Society for Collegiate Journalists (SCJ). She won the Outstanding Student Award in French in 2009. She won five SCJ awards for The Columns in 2010 and has been accepted into Northwestern University's Journalism master's program to begin in fall 2010.

Alexis Broslawsky received the Stanley & Mary Beafore Scholarship.

Donald Cohen received the Outstanding Senior in Accounting Award.

James Cooke II received the Emily Leaf Nichols Alumni Scholarship.


Justin Cullen

Justin Cullen, a senior Architecture major, received the Architecture Superior Achievement Award. A 2006 graduate of Point Pleasant High School, he is the son of Jack and Joann Cullen of Letart. He is a member of the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS), Students Taking Action in Nature's Defense, the FSU Honors program and the FSU Student Speakers Bureau. He was an Undergraduate Research Grant recipient in 2007 and was published in "Tracts." He was a Summer Undergraduate Research Experience Grant recipient in 2009. His ceramics work was featured in the Whetstone art and literary journal in 2009. He won the AIAS Jeffrey Mayfield Scholarship Competition in 2009. He won second place in the AIAS Associate Design Competition in 2008. He was part of the selection committee for Mechanical and Electrical Engineering faculty in summer 2009. He has been on the Dean's List and the President's List.

Thomas R. Devine, a senior Mathematics/Computer Science major, received the James A. LaRue Mathematics Award and the Outstanding Senior in Computer Science Award. A 1999 graduate of East Fairmont High School, he is the son of Micah Lyle Devine and Mary Ann Devine of Fairmont. He won the Robert L. Carroll Mathematics Award in 2009 and was a Summer Undergraduate Research Experience Fellow in 2009.


Christopher Dickey

Christopher Dickey, a senior Music Education major, received an award for winning the FSU Concerto Competition. He is the son of Michael and Fleeta Dickey of Grafton. He is a member of the MENC National Association for Music Educators.

Lindsey Dodrill, a sophomore Chemistry major, received the Dr. James E. Coleman/Dr. Elizabeth D. Swiger Endowed Chemistry Scholarship. A 2008 graduate of East Fairmont High School, she is the daughter of Keith and Diane Dodrill of Fairmont. She is vice president of the American Chemical Society honor society.

Gregory Donohoe received the William C. Ruoff Outstanding Senior Chemistry Award.


Stacey Elder

Stacey Elder, a senior Studio Art major, received the Excellence in Studio Art Award. A 2005 graduate of Liberty High School, she is the daughter of James and Paula Elder of Clarksburg. She is a member of Kappa Pi Art Honorary and a member of the Gallery Management student club. She won best of show in 2010 and 2009 and first place in sculpture in 2008 in the Annual Spring Juried Student Exhibitions. She received the Blanche Kinney Fine Arts Scholarship from 2007-2009. She participated in an Enhancement Grant from 2007-2010. She received the William White Scholarship in 2009-2010.

Chelsea Evenson received the Outstanding Senior in Business Award.

 
Brett Fabian

Brett Fabian, a senior Aviation Administration major, received the Outstanding Aviation Technology Student Award. A 2005 graduate of Sissonville High School, he is the son of Frank and Nance Fabien of Virginia Beach, Va. He is a four-year member of the Bridgeport Adopt A Highway Program.

Timothy Richard Fitzsimmons, a sophomore Mechanical Engineering Technology major, received the Daniel Dicken Memorial Scholarship and the Mechanical Engineering Technology Superior Achievement Award. A 2008 graduate of Cameron High School, he is the son of James P. and Robin K. Fitzsimmons of Cameron.

Amy Katherine Friend, a senior Education major, received the Stark A. Wilmoth Outstanding Student Teacher Award. A 2006 graduate of Fairmont Senior High School, she is the daughter of Raymond Jr. and Paula Friend of Fairmont. She is a member of Kappa Delta Pi, the Marion County Reading Council, the International Reading Association and the West Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

Samantha Frye received the Glenn A. Harman Accounting Excellence Scholarship.

Lillian Gaylord received the Charles J. McClain Scholarship.

Xin Geng received the Mary B. and Edgar N. Jaynes Endowed Scholarship.


Bethany Glotfelty

Bethany Glotfelty, a sophomore English Education major, received the Mildred Mason Newcome Endowed Scholarship. A 2008 graduate of East Fairmont High School, she is the daughter of Robert and Diana Glotfelty of Fairmont. She has been employed as a front desk supervisor at the Falcon Center on campus and has been on the President's List.

Andrew Goodrich received the Civil Engineering Technology Superior Achievement Award.

Deborah Green, a junior National Security and Intelligence and Political Science major, received the Outstanding Student Achievement in Foreign Language and Culture Spanish Award. A 2003 graduate of Mor Metro-West, Ra'anana, Israel, she is the daughter of Ruben and Esther Saal of Ra'anana, Israel. She and her husband Josh Green reside in Fairmont.


Ryan Gregory

Ryan Gregory, a sophomore Mechanical Engineering Technology major, received the Walter F. Phillips, Jr. Endowed Scholarship. A 2001 graduate of Oak Glen High School, he is the son of Austin Gregory of New Cumberland and Debbie Hazelett of Wellsville, Ohio. He is a member of the SAE Baja Car Team.

Derek Grubb received the Walter F. Phillips, Jr. Endowed Scholarship.

Katie Gum received the Outstanding Senior in Information Systems Award.


Sarah Haught

Sarah Elizabeth Haught, a graduate student in the Master of Arts in Teaching program with an emphasis in Secondary English Education, received the A. & L. Hawkins Graduate Student in English Award. A 2004 graduate of Magnolia High School, she is the daughter of Steven B. Haught of Proctor and Kimberly S. Haught of New Martinsville. She has been on the Dean's List.

Daniel Higgs, a sophomore Technology Education major, received the Ruby and Harold Halfin Endowed Scholarship. A 2008 graduate of Fairmont Senior High School, he is the son of William and Kathy Higgs of Fairmont. He is a member of the Outdoor Adventure Club, a PROMISE Scholar and is a past recipient of the Walter F. Phillips and Falcon Scholarships.

Justin Hilliard received the Matthew S. DeVito Memorial Scholarship.

Erica Hopkins received the Louis Schoolnic Endowed Scholarship.

James Howard received the Farley-Branham Award for Outstanding Student Teacher.

Lindsey Howell, a senior Elementary Education major, received the Wendell G. Hardway Award for Excellence in Teacher Education. A 2006 graduate of Magnolia High School, she is the daughter of Mike and Dina Howell of New Martinsville. She has been on the Dean's List and is a member of Kappa Delta Pi education honor society.

Gary "Michael" Johnson II, a senior Biology major, received the Outstanding Senior in Biology Award. A 2006 graduate of Parkersburg High School, he is the son of Gary M. and Melissa A. Johnson of Vienna. He received the Eleanor M. Ford Outstanding Junior Endowed Scholarship in 2009. A member of the FSU men's golf team for four years, he was named the FCB/WVIAC Male Senior Scholar Athlete and won the Eston K. Feaster Award in 2010. He was president of Tri Beta Biology Honor Society in 2009-2010.


Heidi Kave

Heidi Lynn Kave, a senior Communication major, received the Outstanding Senior in Communication Award. A 2007 graduate of East Fairmont High School, she is the daughter of Gregory L. and Terry L. Kave of Fairmont. She was the winner of the 71st Annual M.M. Neely Persuasive Speaking Contest.

Renee LaRue, a senior Mathematics, Secondary Education and French major, received the Eleanor M. Ford Outstanding Senior Endowed Scholarship and the James A. LaRue Mathematics Award. A 2006 graduate of Fairmont Senior High School, she is the daughter of Theodore K. and A. Dennine LaRue of Fairmont. She is a past recipient of the Eleanor M. Ford Outstanding Junior Award, the Margaret Macluckie Memorial Scholarship, the Falcon Presidential Scholarship and is a member of Kappa Delta Pi.

Allan Leary, a senior Electronics Engineering Technology Student, received the Electronics Engineering Technology Superior Achievement Award. A 1981 graduate of Morgantown High School, he is the son of Alvin Leary of Morgantown and Janet Zelenak. He and his wife Claudine have two children, Abi and Andra.

Tawndra Love, a junior Graphics Technology major, received the Graphics Technology Superior Achievement Award. A 1985 graduate of East Fairmont High School, she is the daughter of the late Robert and Shirley Beckner. She is the niece of Ron and Pat Norman of Grafton. She and her husband Sean C. Love reside in Fairmont. She is also a Veterinary Technology student at Pierpont Community & Technical College in Fairmont. She is a member of the SVTA and has previously been named Graphic Student of the Year.

Kaitlyn Martin received the Charles J. McClain Scholarship.


Joseph McCarty

Joseph R. McCarty, a senior National Security and Intelligence/Political Science major, received the National Security and Intelligence Achievement Award. A 2006 graduate of Lewis County High School, he is the son of John W. and Janice L. McCarty of Weston. He is a member of Pi Gamma Mu honor society.

Adam Daniel McKitrick, a senior Electronics Engineering Technology student, received the Consol, Inc. Scholarship. A 2007 graduate of Bridgeport High School, he is the son of Robert and Lisa McKitrick of Bridgeport.


Daniel Miller

Daniel R. Miller, a junior English Education major, received the Outstanding Student Achievement in English Education Award. A 2004 graduate of Preston High School, he is the son of Dr. Timothy C. and Mary Kay Miller of Kingwood. He attends the Howesville Church of Christ, is a 4-H All Star and a member of the Society for Creative Anachronisms for which he has achieved the honor of the Golden Alce. He is a member of WV Writer's Inc.

Mary Ellen Moore-Hale, a senior Bachelor of Science in Nursing major, received the Outstanding BSN Student Award. A 1975 graduate of Morgantown High School, she is the daughter of the late Murray D. and Mary Pat Moore. She and her husband John E. Hale reside in Morgantown and have one daughter, Jonel Marie.

Jessica Nardo received the Carolyn Coakley-Hicherson Memorial Scholarship.

Amy Nunn received the Geraldine and Horace Belmear Outstanding Academic Award.

Celi Oliveto received the Salvatore Family Award.


Trevor Oxley

Trevor R. Oxley, a senior Graphics/Fine Arts major, received the Excellence in Graphics/Fine Arts Award. A 2001 graduate of Nicholas County High School, he is the son of Timothy and Greta Oxley of Bridgeport. He is a member of Kappa Pi art honorary society. He won the Timothy Clayton Award in the Annual Spring Juried Student Exhibition in 2007, 2008 and 2009 and first place in 2010. He received the Blanche Kinney Fine Arts Scholarship in 2009-2010 and Participation Enhancement Grants in 2007 through 2010.

Tricia Parker, a junior Elementary Education major, received the Women of Fairmont State Scholarship. A 1991 graduate of North Marion High School, she is the daughter of Dwight Price of Metz and the late Patricia Price. She and her husband Duane Parker reside in Fairview. She has two children, Holly Clelland and Justin Clelland.

Jessica Patterson, a senior English major, received the Mary Esther and Dr. Byron Jackson Endowed Scholarship and the Outstanding Student Achievement in English Award. A 2006 graduate of Derry Area High School, she is the daughter of James and Selma Patterson of Derry, Pa. She has been a member of the FSU Swim Team, the Student Athletic Advisory Committee and Sigma Tau Delta English honor society.

Dominick Pellegrin, a senior Political Science/National Security and Intelligence major, received the Political Science Achievement Award. A 2006 graduate of East Fairmont High School, he is the son of Richard and Kathern Pellegrin of Fairmont. He has been co-captain of the Debate Team and president of the Political Science Association and a member of Pi Gamma Mu and Pi Sigma Alpha.

Russ Plywaczynski received the Conley CPA Group Accounting Excellence Award and the George E. Lambert Family Endowed Fund for Education.

Joseph Adam Potesta, a junior, received the Outstanding Student in Health & Human Performance Award. A 2007 graduate of East Fairmont High School, he is the son of Timothy J. and Barbara J. Potesta of Fairmont. He is a member of the FSU Baseball Team.


Anup Poudel

Anup Poudel received the William C. Larew Scholarship.

Amy L. Prenatt, a senior Music Education major, received the Sigma Alpha Iota Collegiate Honor Award. A 2006 graduate of Fairmont Senior High School, she is the daughter of Charles R. and Cheryl L. Prenatt of Fairmont. She is a member of the Marching Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Collegiate Singers, Chamber Choir, Percussion Ensemble, African Drum Ensemble, Sax Quartet and Kappa Kappa Psi. She has been vice president and president of the National Association for Music Education and has been editor, vice president for ritual and sergeant-at-arms for Sigma Alpha Iota. She was a member of the American Choral Directors' Association Honor Choir in 2010.

Howard Pridemore received the Ernest Frye Outstanding Student in Computer Science Award.


Sarah Pryor

Sarah Beth Pryor, a senior Elementary Education (Mathematics Education 5-9) major, received the Martha Flesher Endowed Scholarship. A 2007 graduate of Paden City High School, she is the daughter of Kevin Pryor of Winter Garden, Fla., and the late Debra Blatt Pryor. She is the granddaughter of Ed and Ida Blatt of Paden City. She has been on the Dean's List and the President's List, is a member of Kappa Delta Pi education honor society, has been a student employee in the Student Employment Office, has been a peer counselor for math on campus and is a PROMISE Scholar.

Sarah Queen received the Charles J. McClain Scholarship.

Leah Ramsey received the School of Business Endowed Scholarship.

Jennifer Robinette received the Crystal Miller-Morris Scholarship.

John Rundle III received the Dream, Succeed & Lead Award.

Joyce Ruwona received the Woodrow A. Potesta Scholarship of Accounting.


Mallory Sandridge

Mallory Sandridge, a sophomore Elementary Education major, received the Helen Romano Viggiano Elementary Education Endowed Scholarship. A 2008 graduate of Philip Barbour High School, she is the daughter of Earl and Teresa Sandridge of Belington. She has been on the Dean's List.


Aiko Sato

Aiko Sato, a senior Business Administration (Management) major, received the Outstanding International Student Award. A 2006 graduate of Hachioji High School, she is the daughter of Satoru and Mari Sato of Kanagawa, Japan. She has been on the Dean's List and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa honor society and Delta Mu Delta honor society. She is co-captain of the Ballroom Club/Team and treasurer of the International Student Organization. She earned a certificate in Administrative Assistance and a certificate in Ballroom Dancing.


Dana Sayre

Dana Sayre, a senior Theatre and English major, received the Outstanding Achievement in a Foreign Language (French) Award. A 2005 graduate of Riverside High School, she is the daughter of Dennis Allen and Charlene Marie Sayre of Chesapeake. She is a member of Alpha Psi Omega, Masquers theatre group, Sigma Tau Delta and the Honors program.

Heather Shelton, a senior Elementary Education major, received the T.J. & Madge Herndon Pearse Memorial Endowed Scholarship. A 1993 graduate of Fairmont Senior High School, she is the daughter of Jane Anderson of Fairmont. She and her husband Christopher Shelton reside in Rivesville. She is a member of Kappa Delta Pi and an alumna member of KKY.

Snetha Shrestha received the Outstanding International Student Award.

Michael Sink, a junior Mathematics and Computer Science major, received the Eleanor M. Ford Outstanding Junior Endowed Scholarship. He is the son of Richard and Sarah Sink of French Creek and is a member of the Honors program.

Haley Smith received the Eleanor M. Ford Outstanding Junior Endowed Scholarship.

Michael Smith received the Excellence in Studio Art Award.

Casey Spagnuolo received the WesBanco Bank Fairmont, Inc. Endowed Scholarship.


Marianne Spak

Marianne Spak, a junior Associate of Science in Nursing Major, received the Outstanding LPN-ASN Student Award. She is the daughter of Kathleen Spak of Morgantown and the late James S. Spak. She was named class representative for the LPN-ASN class.


Jason Spinks

Jason Spinks, a senior Studio Arts major, received the Exceptional Service to the Visiting Visual Artist Series Award. A 2001 graduate of Nicholas County High School, he is the son of Roger and Debbie Spinks of Calvin and Schirl Spinks of Summersville. He and his wife Georgiana Spinks reside in Calvin. He is a member of Kappa Pi art honors club and the Gallery Management student group.


Jennifer Stafford

Jennifer Stafford, a senior Music Education major, received the Research in Music Education Award. A 2006 graduate of Preston High School, she is the daughter of Mark Anthony Stafford of Terra Alta and Judy Fox Stafford of Anstead. She is a member of the Honors program and has presented her research at the National Music Conference in Albuquerque, N.M., and at the State Music Conference in Charleston.

Holly E. Stanton, a senior Family and Consumer Science (Interior Design) major, received the Ruth M. Skaggs Award. She is the daughter of Joseph B. and Mary E. Stanton of Grantsville, Md. She is former president of the American Society of Interior Designers.

Laura Sudlow received the Haddon & Nettie Morgan Rhodes Endowed Scholarship.

Mary Jo Swiger received the Harry J. Hadley Award for Teaching Excellence - Elementary.

Brittany Sypolt, a sophomore Secondary Education (Spanish and Mathematics) major, received the A. Joyce H. Coleman Memorial Scholarship. A 2008 graduate of Lewis County High School, she is the daughter of Jeffrey and Wanda Sypolt of Jane Lew. She is a member of the Honors program.

Ashley Brooke Thompson, a freshman Chemistry major, received the Dr. James E. Coleman/Dr. Elizabeth D. Swiger Endowed Chemistry Scholarship. A 2009 graduate of Emmanuel Christian School, she is the daughter of Michael Thompson and Brenda Thompson, both of Clarksburg.

 
Richard V. Todd II

Richard V. Todd II, a senior Associate of Science in Nursing major, received the Outstanding ASN Student Award. A 2002 graduate of Liberty High School, he is the son of Richard V. and Julie A. Todd of Wallace. He plans to begin a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in the fall of 2010. He is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, was named Outstanding First Year Paramedic Student in 2003 and was named Outstanding Graduate in EMS in 2004.

Erica Tonkin, a senior Population Studies major, received the Outstanding Sociology Student Award. A 2006 graduate of Braxton County High School, she is the daughter of Lavern and Andrea Tonkin of Little Birch.

John Vollmer received the Eddie & Betty Barrett Endowed Scholarship.

Amanda Kristine Walker, a senior Secondary Education (English/French) major, received the Christiane Buck Sweeney Award. A 2006 graduate of Fairmont Senior High School, she is the daughter of Craig Walker of Fairmont and Jacqueline Morton of Morgantown. She is a member of the Honors program and presented research at the Celebration of Student Scholarship.


Megan Walters

Megan Walters, a junior Psychology major, received the Outstanding Student in Honors Leadership Program Award. A 2007 graduate of John Marshall High School, she is the daughter of Michael and Amy Walters of Wheeling. She was vice president of the Honors program from 2009-2010; a member of Psi chi; a Freshman Counselor; Honors program secretary from 2008-2009; and a member of the Student Speakers Bureau in 2007-2008.

Christopher A. Warnick, a senior Occupational Safety major, received the Occupational Safety Superior Achievement Award. A 2006 graduate of North Marion High School, he is the son of Robery L. and Diana L. Warnick. He has been on the President's List and the Dean's List. He received a NASA Space Grant Scholars Program award in 2009-2010, an FSU Undergraduate Research Program in 2007-2008 and is a past recipient of the Walter F. "Shady" Phillips, Jr. Scholarship. He has been vice president of Students Taking Action in Nature's Defense, treasurer of the American Society of Safety Engineers, a member of the Honors program, a member of the Student Speakers Bureau, treasurer of Increasing Our Faith, a mentor in the College of Science and Technology Mentor Program and a past recipient of the FSU Undergraduate Scholarship.

Sarah Watkins, a senior Music Education major, received the Academic Achievement Award in Music. A 2006 graduate of Philip Barbour High School, she is the daughter of Dave and Beverly Watkins of Philippi. She is a collegiate member of the Music Educators National Conference, Sigma Alpha Iota international honorary women's music fraternity, Kappa Kappa Psi, the 2009 Small College Intercollegiate Band and the Honors program.

Kayla Way received the Dorothea Poling Brand Endowed Scholarship.

Robert Weekley, Jr. received the Outstanding Allied Health Administration Student Award.


Esther Wilson

Esther Wilson, a senior Psychology major, received the Outstanding Senior Psychology Student Award. A 2006 graduate of Morgantown High School, she is the daughter of Howard Wilson and Debra Wylie, both of Morgantown. She is a member of the Student Psychological Association and was vice president from 2008-2009. She is a member of Psi Chi honorary society and Pi Gamma Mu honorary society.


Holly Wilson

Holly Wilson, a senior Education, English/Oral Communication major, received the Outstanding Senior in Oral Communication Award. A 2004 graduate of John Marshall High School, she is the daughter of Mike and Dani Jo Wilson of Glen Dale. She is a member of Sigma Tau Delta, Masquers theatre group, FSU Speech Team and the West Virginia Reading Association.

Jana Woofter received the William C. Ruoff Outstanding Senior Chemistry Award.

Kristin Yoho, a junior Elementary Education (Library/Media) major, received the Haddon & Nettie Morgan Rhodes Endowed Scholarship. A 2007 graduate of North Marion High School, she is the daughter of Steve and Karen Yoho of Mannington. She is a member of the Honors program and Honors Association and the Kappa Delta Pi education honorary. She has been historian for the Fairmont Collegiate 4-H Club and was a lead team member in planning the Quiz Bowl sponsored by FSU, Pierpont Community & Technical College, Fairmont State GEAR UP and Kappa Delta Pi.

Michelle Yost, a junior English major, received the John Teahan Memorial Endowed Scholarship. A 2008 graduate of St. Maria Goretti High School in Hagerstown, Md., she is the daughter of Michael Yost and Roxanne Shields of Shenandoah Junction. She served as literary editor for the journal Whetstone.

Megan Zutaut, a sophomore Secondary Education (Mathematics) major, received the Margaret MacLuckie Scholarship. A 2008 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, she is the daughter of Robert and Laura Zutaut of Beckley.
