Children's Ghost Stories Workshops to Begin Feb. 16 Instead of Feb. 9
Fairmont State University's School of Fine Arts and the Center for Arts Engagement is offering an opportunity for children ages 8 to 13 to create a performance based on West Virginia ghost stories from the unpublished work of Dr. Ruth Ann Musick, author of "The Tale-tell Lilac Bush."
The workshop will meet on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. through March 30. The first meeting of the workshop was scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 9, but has been changed to Tuesday, Feb. 16, in Room 314 of Wallman Hall.
The participants will play theatre games, improvise scenes, create music and write poetry and dialogue. The workshop will culminate with a short performance for family and friends on March 30.
Dr. Francene Kirk, Associate Professor of Communication and Theatre Arts, FSU music student Jenny Stafford and students from Theatre 3350: Children's Drama will guide the workshop.
Those who would like to participate should e-mail Dr. Francene Kirk at fkirk@fairmontstate.edu or call her at (304) 367-4170. The class will be limited to 15 people. The sign-up is on a "first-come, first-served" basis. The workshop is free.
The goal of the project is to give participants the opportunity to create original theatre and music from a source material (the ghost stories).
