Apr 13, 2009

The Fairmont State University Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Valarie Huffman, will present its final concert of the year at 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, in Wallman Hall Theatre.

Appearing with the Wind Ensemble will be Dr. Constance Edwards, Assistant Professor of Music and Bassoon, performing Burrill Phillips' "Concertpiece" for bassoon and wind ensemble.

A native Ohioan, Edwards is a graduate of the College of Wooster (B.M. Bassoon Performance), the University of Akron (M.M. Prior to her appointment at FSU, she taught courses in music appreciation, American popular music, music theory and music in world cultures at various colleges and universities in Ohio and Arizona. In addition to her teaching, Edwards is an active performer in both symphony orchestras and chamber ensembles and has twice performed at the annual conference of the International Double Reed Society.

Other works the wind ensemble will be performing include Philip Sparke's "Prelude to a Celebration," Frank Ticheli's newest work for wind band called "Wild Nights!" and "Cheetah" by legendary 20th century composer Karel Husa.
