Message to Students, Faculty and Staff: SWINE FLU UPDATE
Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College sent notification to all students, faculty and staff yesterday afternoon, April 29, regarding the Pandemic Influenza (Swine Flu). We will continue to monitor the situation and will work closely with the Marion County Health Department and Fairmont General Hospital.
The World Health Organization raised the level of Pandemic Influenza Alert to 5 last evening. This level indicates that a Pandemic is imminent.
No cases of this swine flu (a version of H1N1) have been found in West Virginia as of this date. Everyday preventive actions are still the best plan: wash hands frequently, cover coughs/sneezes, keep hands away from eyes/nose/mouth, stay home when you are sick and avoid close contact. Symptoms of flu include a high fever, cough, body aches, sore throat and possibly nausea/vomiting or diarrhea. If you experience these symptoms, please contact your health care provider.
