"The Class of 2008-2009 is hoping to assist the United Way of Marion County in meeting its annual goal and to help Fairmont's Interested Dog Owners (FIDO) with their grassroots efforts to build a dog park," said Dr. G.H. "Budd" Sapp, Director of Leadership Marion.

The Leadership Marion XXVII Cash Bash is planned for 6 p.m. to midnight Saturday, May 16, at Westchester Village, Fairmont. Admission is a donation of $50 per couple; an open bar and dinner are included. $2,500 will be given away during the event. Winners will be chosen every 15 minutes from 7 to 9:45 p.m. Cash prizes will be given away, and businesses and community members have donated prizes, so there will be many opportunities to win. At 10 p.m. there will be a grand prize drawing of $1,000. A dance is planned from 10 p.m. to midnight with music provided by Starfire Entertainment.

"The United Way of Marion County is down to our last 8 percent to reaching our goal. This event will be critical in ensuring our 18 agencies have the necessary funding to assist Marion County residents through these difficult times," said Tiffany Samuels, Executive Director of United Way of Marion County.

"I'm very pleased to be part of this group (FIDO) that has been working hard to bring this needed facility to the Fairmont, Marion County area. This dog park will provide a social gathering place for both dogs and their owners and be a benefit to the community. Our hope is that it provides recreation and promotes responsible pet ownership as well as strengthens the very important human-animal bond that many of us share," said Dr. Aaron Pollock, DVM.

Leadership Marion is a program of people who are motivated by commitment, involvement, understanding and enthusiasm in an effort to foster leadership and stewardship in the community. For more information, call (304) 367-4663.
