"Musical Comedy Murders of 1940" on Stage
The Fairmont State University Masquers spring 2009 theatre season will begin with "The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940," a short comedy by John Bishop.
The play was first performed on Broadway on April 6, 1987. The show takes place in Chappaqua, N.Y., in December 1940 in Elsa von Grossenkneuten's mansion and follows her attempts to catch the murderer before the whole cast goes missing. Who might that killer be? There's only one way to find out.
The show is directed by Jeffrey Ingman, who has done other shows including "Spring Awakening," "Once Upon a Mattress" and "Everyman."
Performance dates for "The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940" will be Feb. 27-28 at 7:30 p.m., March 1 at 2 p.m. and March 10-12 at 7:30 p.m. For more information or to reserve tickets, call the Box Office at (304) 367-4240. This show is not considered a musical.
The experienced cast includes Jimmy Clegg (Helsa Wentzel/Deiter), a sophomore theatre major from Martinsburg who was most recently seen in the Town & Gown Production of "Scrooge, The Musical"; Jessica Jirak ( Elsa von Grossenknueten), an FSU senior who has been in a number of shows, most recently acting in "The Mandrake"; Ricardo Nesbit (Michael Kelly), a 21 year old junior from D.C. who has been seen in "Once Upon a Mattress"; Daniel Moxley (Patrick O'Reilly), a freshman theatre major making his FSU debut in "The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940," has been in other shows such as "Grease," where he took on the role of Danny; Anthony Host (Ken de la Maize), a sophomore theatre major from Morgantown High School where he starred in "Little Shop of Horrors as Seymour"; Elizabeth Huff (Nikki Crandall), an FSU freshman who was just seen as Isabel in the holiday production of "Scrooge, The Musical"; Marc Cornes (Eddie McCuen), a theatre major hailing from Columbus, Ohio, who has been seen in a number of FSU productions, most recently working as the Assistant Director of "RENT: School Edition"; Dana Sayre (Marjorie Baverstock), a senior theatre major and Alpha Psi Omega president who has been seen in a number of FSU productions including "Top Girls"; Bruce McGlumphy (Roger Hopewell), a sophomore theatre major who has been in shows ranging from "Spring Awakening" to "Scrooge"; and Christie Brooks (Bernice Roth), a Fairmont native who has also been in a number of FSU shows ranging from "The Rocky Horror Show" to "The Mandrake," as well as the student written and directed show "Stuck Here with You."
